Today we’d like to introduce you to Dom Davalos
Hi Dom, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It began as just me recording our first song “BURN THE RICH” on garageband. I did nothing as far as mixing and production, just recorded it all and uploaded it to distrokid. After that I remembered there was a guy I knew from school who i assumed would play guitar so I asked him and he agreed to join. I then recruited my girlfriend who plays bass and the 3 of us started looking for a drummer. After going through 2 temporary drummers we found our permanent one. The 4 of us found a producer and recorded an album which is out now on all platforms it’s called “D.D.D” we even remade burn the rich for the album
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the main obstacles so far was even getting to start a band. I’ve spent the last 4 years looking for people to join and with that came a few promising projects that fell through with too many actually good songs never seeing the light of day. Once I finally put together my own band with the right people our next obstacle was to find a drummer. We went through 2 temporary drummers and then found our permanent guy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are Perfekt Dark. A new punk band that is trying to find our way into the San Antonio music scene. We write songs about stuff that makes us mad and we feel needs to be said. So far we have 2 singles and an album out. The whole band with our producer worked on our album for months and we are so proud of the end result for it. Our album takes inspiration from bands such as Dead Kennedys with the surfer punk sound in our satirical song “Republican Woman” and Nirvana with our other satirical song “Testosterone Shortage” I feel that the band is full of nothing but talent.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Find your local music scene. It’s a lot easier than some may think it would be. Locally owned record stores and guitar stores will have flyers for shows and bands plastered all over them. Never be afraid to reach out to someone you might be interested in beginning a project like this with, and never stop practicing. Practice your craft until you sound the way you desire to sound
