Conversations with Dazarae Mathews

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dazarae Mathews

Hi Dazarae, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
What motivated me to start my journey was the realization that I was tired of always helping others succeed while neglecting my own potential. I started to wonder what could happen if I poured that energy into my relationship with Jesus and into my own growth. As a single mother, I knew my path was different, and it was up to me to build a legacy and create a better future for my children and myself. Pursuing a career as an actress became part of that journey, as I saw it as a way to not only express myself but also to provide opportunities and a brighter future for us.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Pursuing my acting career as a single mother has been anything but easy, especially with two men leaving the weight of parenthood entirely on me. My first child’s father would choose when to play the role of “father of the year,” while doing everything he could to tear me down. He even took me to court after 12 years, trying to claim I was an unfit parent just to avoid paying child support. As if life as a single parent wasn’t challenging enough. My second child’s father neglects his responsibilities, all while actively parenting his other three kids, leaving mine behind. It’s heartbreaking because I never wanted this to be my son’s reality, but unfortunately, it is. I wouldn’t wish this on any child.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actress and aspiring licensed professional cosmetologist, but what truly drives me is my passion for storytelling and connecting with people. As an actress, I specialize in bringing authentic, relatable characters to life, drawing from my own experiences as a single mother. I’m known for my resilience and determination, qualities I bring to both my personal life and my career.

What I’m most proud of is my journey—balancing motherhood with my pursuit of acting while continuing to grow in my faith. What sets me apart is my ability to channel my struggles and victories into my craft, creating performances that resonate deeply. I’m also proud of my ambition to build a legacy for my children, showing them that no matter the obstacles, success is possible when you stay focused and faithful.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the acting industry becoming more inclusive, with more opportunities for diverse voices and stories. Streaming platforms will likely continue to dominate, offering a wider variety of roles, especially for women and people of color. There’s also a growing trend of actors taking control of their careers by producing and creating their own content, which could open new doors for creative expression.

As for me, I aim to rise with these shifts. My goals include winning a Tony Award, earning the Best Female Actress title, and landing a major role in the DC Universe as Catwoman. I believe that as more diverse stories are being told, there’s space for actors like me to break new ground and leave a lasting legacy.
