Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Cavazos.
Hi Courtney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I knew I had a passion for makeup at the age of 3 years old, I currently have a photo of me applying makeup on my mother and my aunt at that age. Growing up I was a very artistic kid and I knew I wanted to combine both of my passions together. My mother worked and did online night school, while she did her school work I was obsessed with beauty influencers and their YouTube channels. I started to play around with her makeup and try to recreate the looks I would see on YouTube. At the age of 14, my mother allowed me to purchase my very own makeup for the first time. It was a MAC cosmetics eyeliner and mascara set from the exclusive hello kitty collection, I used it till the last drop.
From then on every birthday and Christmas, I would ask for makeup to help me build my collection. The high school helped me become more creative with my makeup looks. My classmates started to notice the natural talent I had and started to reach out to hire me for birthdays, dances, etc. Most people usually had an idea of how they wanted their makeup done and then there was a select few who were allowed to be fully creative with their looks! This is when I knew I wanted to be a makeup artist and build a career out of it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been smooth so far but I’ve had my moments where I feel burnt out and lose some of my creativity and have to find a way to inspire myself again. I as well have to keep educating myself on new techniques and makeup trends, the makeup industry continues to grow and evolve every day.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a freelance makeup artist in San Antonio, Texas. I specialize in full glam, minimal special fx, and currently entering the bridal industry for makeup. I’m known for my TikTok where right now I have 167,000 followers who love my bold lip tutorials and my eye makeup tutorials incorporating rhinestones for some glitz and glam moments.
I am most proud of myself for continuing to push myself to follow my dreams of becoming a makeup artist! What sets me apart from others is my love and passion for doing makeup, the feeling of making others happy and feel beautiful is the best feeling in the world and it drives me more to continue this road that I’m on and the excitement is thrilling.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something actually really surprising about me is that I have a big passion for cooking, I love to create new recipes and try out new recipes to cook for my friends and family. I guess you could say I’m somewhat of a foodie! Another surprising fun fact is I love singing karaoke with my friends and mom every single week!
