Conversations with Cassi Hart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassi Hart.

Hi Cassi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started as a family photographer about five years ago, and every time someone brought their dog to a session, I somehow went home with more photos of the dog than the family. That’s when it clicked.

Pet photography quickly became my passion, and I dove headfirst into learning everything I could—education, experience, and hands-on work. I began volunteering with local shelters, photographing dogs and cats to help them get noticed and find homes.

Since then, my business has grown, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible pets. Giving back is still a huge part of what I do. I regularly volunteer my photography services for shelters and rescue organizations and support them through donation-based events where proceeds go directly back to the animals who need it most.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There were many moments I wanted to give up—times I struggled with imposter syndrome and felt like I wasn’t good enough. But I knew that if my talent could help even one animal find a home, it was worth pushing through the doubt. And beyond that, it’s about helping pet parents preserve memories of their pets, whose lives are far too short.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m proud to offer pet parents beautiful portraits of the animals they love most—not just taking the photograph, but creating artwork they can hang in their homes and truly connect with. I’m equally passionate about my volunteer work, where I give shelter animals the chance to be seen for who they really are, not just through an intake photo. Studio-style portraits that show their personality, stop the scroll, and help them stand out to potential adopters.

I specialize in pets, though pet parents are always welcome in front of the camera too. I also offer end-of-life photography sessions, honoring those final moments by capturing not only the pet, but the deep bond they share with their people.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Many people are surprised to learn that I have a mobile studio, allowing me to bring a complete studio-style setup into their home, where their pet feels safest and most at ease.
