Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Ulep
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Howdy, I’m Brittany- a marketing strategist, creative thinker, and storyteller at heart. I’ve always been an artist, just like my dad. Growing up, I loved drawing, painting, and building things, which naturally made me gravitate toward creativity. But when I got to college, I intentionally chose accounting, thinking it was the “practical” route. Turns out, I found my marketing classes way more interesting and engaging.
While in school, I worked as a waitress, and during my senior year, a marketing role opened up at my workplace. The owner gave me a shot, and I ran with it. Before I knew it, we were hitting record-breaking F&B sales, and I completely fell in love with marketing. I became obsessed with the creativity behind it, understanding consumer behavior, and finding ways to blend storytelling with business strategy. I began hosting my own themed experiences that became very popular in the nightlife industry, with over 300+ attending in the San Antonio area. These experiences were hosted with hospitality group, PL Hospitality. We were known for having out-of-the-ordinary experiences including a Chic-Fil-a night were we had a guy dressed up in a cow pass out over 200 sandwiches out, a circus-themed night where we had fire dancers, stilt walkers, logo dancers, games, and circus decorations, and so many other cool and unique activations.
After graduating, I started taking on my own contracts as well as working across different industries and learning as I went. Over the years, I’ve worked in tourism, sports & entertainment, beauty, and hospitality—an industry I’ve grown especially passionate about. Hospitality was where I got my start, and it’s always been my favorite industry. There’s something special about creating spaces and experiences that bring people together, and one day, my dream is to have my own line of hospitality concepts that blend culture and unforgettable guest experiences.
Now, I’m the Marketing Manager for a newly renovated hotel and food and beverage outlets in Downtown San Antonio, which has been such an exciting challenge. The brand itself is so unique, driven by music and rich history, which makes it the perfect place for me to bring my creativity to life. Being able to shape its identity and build something meaningful has been incredibly rewarding.
Beyond my professional work, I co-founded Dreamers Run Club, which has become one of the largest running clubs in the country. I’ve helped grow it through branding, social media, and partnerships, but more importantly, it’s created an incredible community built on inspire San Antonians to stay active and connect with one another. There’s six of us that lead the run club and we’re all young professionals with very positive and creative vibes.
I also serve as a leader for the BST Foundation, supporting indigenous students from my hometown in the Philippines through mentorship and scholarships.
At the end of the day, I chose marketing because I love helping brands connect with people in meaningful ways. I believe marketing is all about storytelling, strategy, and innovation, and I’m always looking for new ways to create impact.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growth never happens in comfort. Marketing requires looking at projects from multiple angles, and that’s what makes it exciting. There’s no single “right” way to reach a goal, and sometimes, even when people disagree, neither side is necessarily wrong. That’s just part of the process. You have to be okay with people not liking or agreeing with your reasonings or designs.
Another challenge is staying adaptable. Marketing and trends evolve constantly, and with everyone fighting for attention, understanding our audience isn’t always easy. Sometimes, what worked before won’t work now, and we have to pivot quickly.
And of course, the worst- creative blocks happen. I’ve learned that my best ideas don’t come when I’m staring at a screen: they come when I’m on a trip, grabbing lunch with a friend, or even just reading a book. But deadlines don’t wait, and trying to be creative under pressure can be really hard.
But in the end, all the challenges and failures help us learn.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a marketing professional, storyteller, and creative who loves to think outside the box and push boundaries. Specializing in hospitality marketing, I craft immersive brand experiences that make places feel like destinations people can’t wait to visit. I believe the best marketing comes from bold ideas and taking risks, whether it’s positioning a hotel in a completely new way, creating unexpected guest touch points, or telling a story that truly resonates.
What sets me apart? I enjoy my work and I’m passionate about it. I thrive on finding new angles, unique narratives, and creative ways to connect with audiences that others might overlook. My background in both art and business gives me a unique perspective. I’m equally drawn to big-picture storytelling and strategic execution. I also deeply value community: for me, marketing isn’t just about selling an experience, it’s about building connections and making people feel something real.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
My parents grew up in the Philippines with far fewer opportunities than I had, so they always reminded us to take advantage of everything in front of us. They’d say, “Take every opportunity you have—we didn’t get to do any of this growing up.” Because of that, they put us in sports, arts, and all kinds of activities. We were always doing something.
I remember in elementary school, my schedule was nonstop. After school, I’d go straight to club activities, then get picked up, change and eat in the car, and rush to softball practice—barely making it on time—then come home and do my homework. My parents kept us super busy, but honestly, I’m still the same way, and I love it. I like to make use of my time.
We were also really outdoorsy. We had a small boat and an RV, so anytime we had a free weekend, we’d be out camping, roasting marshmallows, and searching for firewood in the woods. I loved being in nature—camping, tubing, swimming at the lake—it was the best. My dad eventually invested in a plot of farmland when I was 15 and we built a farm and out of my other two siblings, I’d spend the most time there because I loved the animals and being in the sun. On top of that, I looked up to my big sister a lot growing up. She was incredibly smart and always a good role model.
When I wasn’t outside or busy with activities, I spent most of my free time drawing or hanging out with friends. Filipinos really value family and community, so I was always with the kids of my parents’ friends—we were all super close, like family. I’ve always been pretty social, and that sense of connection has really stuck with me.
