Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Morgan.
Hi Brian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Texas Youth Football and Cheer Association (TYFA) began in 1995, founded by two like-minded individuals with a shared vision to unify youth football across the state of Texas. At the time, youth football was highly fragmented, with numerous independent leagues operating under different rules, regulations, and standards. This lack of consistency created challenges for athletes, families, and organizations alike.
TYFA was created to bring structure and unity to youth football and cheer by establishing standardized rules, promoting fair competition, and prioritizing youth development and safety. What started as a vision to align local leagues has grown into a statewide organization that encourages broad participation while maintaining consistency and accountability.
Today, TYFA is the largest independent youth football and cheer association in Texas and is recognized as one of the five largest youth football organizations in the country—serving communities across the state and continuing to build on its founding mission of unity, development, and opportunity for young athletes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not always been smooth. Change is often difficult, and early on we encountered many organizations that were hesitant to join or uncertain about our mission. One of the greatest challenges was the sheer logistics of building a statewide league. Texas is vast, and before the advent of video conferencing, meeting in person with teams and organizations across the state required significant time and effort.
Another ongoing challenge has been gaining full buy-in to the vision. TYFA is more than a set of standardized rules—it represents a shared mindset and commitment to unity, development, and accountability. Helping organizations understand and embrace that philosophy has been essential to the league’s growth and long-term success.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In addition to being a co-founder of TYFA, I serve as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the league. As President, I oversee the day-to-day governance and operations of the organization. As CEO, I manage the business side of TYFA, including relationships with sponsors, vendors, and strategic partners, while also serving as the public face of the league.
What truly separates TYFA from others is our drive and unwavering commitment to the league and its members. We are never satisfied with the status quo. Innovation is a constant priority, and we work every day to build a better, stronger organization—always pushing beyond “good enough” in pursuit of excellence.
What we are most proud of is the speed at which we have achieved success and the scale we have reached. In a relatively short period of time, TYFA has grown into the largest independent youth football and cheer organization in Texas and one of the largest in the nation, serving communities across the state while staying true to our founding vision.
What makes you happy?
Seeing the young athletes who come through our program go on to achieve excellence—not only in sports, but as individuals and contributors to society—is incredibly rewarding. Sports teach valuable life lessons such as discipline, teamwork, accountability, and perseverance, all of which translate far beyond the field and into everyday life.
