Beseja Bakari “Cadillac Moses” Band – Cadillac Muzik

Hi Beseja Bakari “Cadillac Moses”, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started off being heavily involved with music around 1998 – 2000 dancing at parties, talent shows, and events with childhood friends. We used to call our style of dance (Popping & Sliding). We had our own San Antonio native dance called “The Woo”….

I later started Rapping (Freestyling in circles) at parties with friends. We used to bang on tables in the school cafeteria (With hands & pencils) and have freestyle sessions rapping & dancing, & creating our own beats…

It went from that to actually attempting to make songs in a closet with my cousin (Garland Woods) on a tape recorder. We later started a Rap group with my cousins Eugene Jackson (Hollywood) & Keith Freeland (Popeye) called Texas HardKnocks (THK).

Around 2009 Myself and my cousin Scott Campbell both were apart of the group, and later decided we wanted to step outside of the box and create something different, so hooked up and formed “Cadillac Muzik”… It started off as a Rap Duo with myself & Scott, & my friend James Howard (J-Marz) as a producer, then it later became more of a Band/Collective of songwriters & musicians uniting to push one big sound…

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were many struggles along the way. I actually was raised by a single mother for the most part of my life. I was raised on the Eastside of San Antonio in a neighborhood called the New Light Village. I spent the first 9 years of my life on the Eastside of San Antonio in the late 80s/early 90s. These were some of the worst times the Eastside of San Antonio had ever seen. Gang Violence, Drugs, & Crime were at an all time high. I lived in a Blood (Gang) projects & the most dangerous Crip (Gang) projects was near us, called the East Terrace. Both neighborhoods would go at it. We witnessed drive-by shootings, people being rapped, kidnapped, robbed, beat to death, and all kinds of other trauma. I’m that time walking in the neighborhood with the wrong color clothing would get you killed…

I later moved to the Northeast side of town to the Glen areas. This side of town is where I actually found myself in the music. Being that my older uncles were very creative and innovative, it wasn’t too hard to catch on musically.

There were many obstacles getting my music career off of the ground. Having a child earlier then expected, Getting very sick and almost dying from a disease, Being homeless for a few years, toxic relationships with women, & just having many psychological issues with my childhood trauma…

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a musician/songwriter & business owner. I specialize in music production, songwriting, music business management, marketing, & music live performance. I am most proud that I never gave up my passion & calling, nor minimized who I am to fit the standards of society.

I don’t need fame nor fortune to feel good about myself. I’m firm in my belief in my creator. I know who I am, and I don’t need validation from anyone…

I’m a hard worker that is a perfectionist when it comes to my craft & I don’t take my gifts for granted. I will always stay humble, and in the will of my creator. It’s never been just about me, it’s always been about allowing “The Most High” to use me.

I’m operating in my purpose… Something many other people live & die without ever coming to the understand of…

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Taking the risk is everything. You can’t ever become what you are supposed to become in life if you live in fear of challenge…

Pressure busts pipes to make diamonds. Life is about taking the risk, failure, & getting back up to try again. In this process, you learn to appreciate the entire journey…
