Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Freer.
Hi Alison, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised in the Austin area but have been living and working as a costume designer in Los Angeles for the past 20 years. I got my first design job the old fashioned way — faking it until I made it! I am also the author of two books on fashion, one of which was a New York Times Best-Seller. recently moved back to the Austin area and am so pleased to be working on a project about the history of my beloved home state.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Making it in Hollywood is not for the faint of heart The hours are long and the back-stabbing is plentiful. Hard work doesn’t always pay off!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As the costume designer on a film, I am responsible for the look of each character’s clothing. I take into account the character’s age, place in the world, and likes or dislikes. I specialize in custom-made items, sourcing the materials needed for whatever crazy scenario the script calls for.
