Conversations with Alexandra Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Ramirez.

Hi Alexandra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I would have to go back to 2nd grade. When my teacher told my mom she didn’t think I would amount to anything, but that it was okay, most children don’t. Every since I found that out, I’ve struggled with my self-confidence. I would always wonder if what I was doing was ever good enough, or if I was ever good enough. Once I graduated I went straight to college where I met a lot of great people. But I always felt like I wasn’t doing what I was supposed to be doing with my life. I’ve always loved baking, every since I was young.

As I got older, I practiced more and more, I got better at my decorations and even began doing custom cookie and cake orders for people. I still didn’t really believe in myself and constantly worried if I was doing a good job at my bakes. So many people would constantly tell me to have more confidence in myself and to charge prices that my work was worth. I realized my dream to open my own bakery, and to expand my culinary knowledge. So, two years ago I made the decision to leave my hometown of San Angelo and go to The Culinary Institute of America- San Antonio. I finally began to believe in myself and my dream. Even when people around me blew me off and were so confident that I was going to chicken out in the end and not move. But here I am years later and only one semester away from graduating.

I’ve learned so much during my time in school, and my baking skills are better than ever. I get more custom cake and cookie orders than, and I am more confident than ever to open my own bakery. What I would like everyone to get from this story is that it is never too late to pursue your dreams, and you should never talk yourself out of them.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy, there have been ups and there have been downs but I’ve learned from my many mistakes and continue to lear.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in baked goods. I like to tell others that my baking is like being an artist just on a different canvas.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think it’s important to have great customer service and treat your customers like family.
