Conversations with Akinsola Muse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akinsola Muse

Hi Akinsola , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Eight years ago, I moved to San Antonio from Michigan, where I earned my certification in Film and Video Production. I instantly fell in love with this city’s inclusivity, diversity, and incredible food scene.

In 2020, a friend and I started a food delivery platform catering to the African community and African food enthusiasts. Through customer feedback, I discovered a unique opportunity to showcase African culture to the broader San Antonio audience. That idea led to the creation of the San Antonio African Food Festival—a celebration of African cuisine, music, and heritage.

The festival has grown each year, becoming a beloved event in the city. Being invited to speak about it on local TV and radio has been a humbling experience, and I’m grateful for how warmly San Antonio has embraced this vision.

For me, the festival is more than an event—it’s a way to unite people, share culture, and add a vibrant new flavor to the city I now proudly call home.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it Been a Smooth Road?

Yes, it has been a smooth and rewarding journey. We’ve received incredible support from the City of Leon Valley, with the mayor’s office consistently stepping in to assist whenever we reached out. The police department has been phenomenal, ensuring the festival is secure and providing a welcoming environment for attendees year after year.

The people of San Antonio have shown immense love and enthusiasm for the event, and their support has been truly fascinating. While hosting the festival comes with significant costs, and we haven’t earned a dollar from it since tickets are free, the backing of food vendors and local businesses has been tremendous.

Overall, it’s been a smooth ride, thanks to the collaboration and generosity of everyone involved. This collective effort keeps the festival alive and thriving, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
About My Work

I’ve spent my entire career in marketing communications, starting as a Creative Director. In that role, I helped ad agencies produce and direct TV commercials for major African brands, including big banks, telecom companies, and Samsung phones.

About eight years ago, I pivoted to digital marketing, where I’ve thrived. My campaigns consistently deliver impressive results, with some generating over 300% ROI. I’m currently a partner at Vinedress.com and Mastersofcraftnaija.com, and I own Parlor Digital, a boutique ad agency in San Antonio dedicated to helping small businesses reach their customers with simple, affordable online strategies.

What sets me apart is my deep love for both marketing and creativity. This passion has given me a unique edge, enabling me to combine strategy with innovation to drive impactful results. Of all my accomplishments, I’m most proud of the lasting partnerships I’ve built and the success I’ve helped others achieve.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The Role of Luck in My Life and Business

As a devoted Christian, I firmly believe that everything I’ve accomplished is by the grace and guidance of the Holy Spirit. No man can achieve such things without divine help. While some may call it luck, I see it as God’s love and favor at work in my life.

I also believe in the principle of time and chance, and in putting in the effort to be prepared when opportunities arise. God, in His wisdom, has set certain moments apart for favor, and I’ve experienced this firsthand in my journey. For me, it’s not about luck—it’s about the unmerited love of God and the diligence to do my part.
