Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronika Gant.
Veronika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
How did I become a photographer? That’s an exciting story. Ten years ago, I worked for a top-rated radio station as an on-air assistant for the program director. Besides this full-time job, I work as a freelance makeup artist. One day I realized that I need more portfolio images for my makeup. At the time, I didn’t know any photographer specializing in only beauty photography. So, I decided to do photography my portfolio by myself.
I bought myself my first Sony Alpha camera and a 50mm lens. I started to call all my friends who were willing to be face models for me and I began taking pictures of my makeup work. I was working very hard learning photoshop so that I can polish my work. I also fell in love with fashion photography, and I start using models from a local agency where I lived in Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia. Almost every weekend, I photographed different faces.
After eight months, I got an offer from GOSH Cophenhagen to photograph their campaign for Slovakia. I was hesitant to accept the campaign because I didn’t believe that I was capable of photographing a campaign for a major beauty company like Gosh. However, something inside me was telling me I have to take any attractive opportunity like this if I want to succeed one day. I decided accepted the campaign and I was determined to make it successful no matter what it takes.
With only one month to prepared myself, I bought myself a brand new DSLR camera with a lens, and I began practicing every day leading up to big day of the campaign shoot! Everything with the entire shoot went well, and the result was successful.
From this point, I fell in love with the idea of being a professional photographer who can getting pay for their art.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road for sure. I moved from Slovakia to the USA near the end of 2013. I felt overwhelmed for the following reasons; my English was very poor, I had no experience own a professional photography business, I was not familiar with American culture, I was literally starting over from zero.
I started my business at the end of 2014. I can specifically remember having anxiety answering phone calls from potential customers. I struggled with communication. However, my communication improved each month as I continued to push myself to study more and take more phone calls from customers. At the time of starting my business, our 1st born baby was 6-months. I juggled being a 1st time mommy, learning English, and educating myself in the advanced techniques of photography and small business management.
Thank goodness my husband is so kind and so understanding with me. He supported me from the first day he knew me.

Any big plans?
My plans are to provide the Veronika Gant Photography to more people who desire fantastic portraiture. To make the plan a reality, I will dedicate ample time to hire and train photographers to provide the level of exceptional photography that is expected of my brand in addition to the customer service experience that is the hallmark of my brand. With the implementation of a thorough plan, the structured to provide exceptional customer service experience and my signature photography style, expanding my reach to more customers will be a success.
