Community Highlights: Meet Steven Torres of Texas Top Prospects

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Torres.

Hi Steven, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am currently a teacher at NISD. Before, I became a teacher I was training and working with kids in the city in our low-income areas. I have been working with student-athletes for over 8 years now. I do this on the side because it is rewarding to me. I am always honest and upfront with parents and athletes in expectations.

I wanted to change the narrative that we have in the city about or towards football athletes. Around our city, we have nothing in place that gives our kids a chance to be exposed to a college combine much less recruiting at a marginal cost. I sat down with 10 of my closest friends and advocates in the community to pitch them my idea on February 2021 before the pandemic. Each one of them was aboard. Texas Top Prospects is in year 2 and we are making huge waves in the community.

We were featured on KENS 5, https://www.kens5.com/article/sports/high-school/local-coach-builds-company-to-give-high-school-athletes-college-exposure/273-a9f0e006-eac6-4c31-96f0-683e6259ef2b.

Some of the boys I train have become a part of my growth as a coach and individual. We all have mutual respect for one another.

As you know, we’re big fans of Texas Top Prospects. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
This is who I am. Steven has a professional history in personal training, coaching, and as a physical education teacher. He has trained one on one, and done group training, with youth athletes for the last ten years. His focus is on strength and agility training.

He is an alumnus of Texas A&M San Antonio where he completed a BSA in kinesiology with a focus in education. He also has certifications in TRX, Trigger Point Therapy, and NCSF. Steven currently works as a P.E. Coach in NISD. All guys on my staff work in area districts.

Texas Top Prospects aims to provide every student-athlete the opportunity to showcase their talents. We have already made an impact in the community by hosting 2 combines in San Antonio and the greater surrounding area already. However, the goal of this is to help bring knowledge of specific conditioning drills for the student-athlete, and their parent(s) which includes proper football training, techniques, and pro-timing.

In addition, we showcase student-athletes by creating profiles that highlight their stats and athletic accomplishments throughout their student career so that they may submit them to colleges of their choice in hopes of creating a greater chance of college admittance. Moreover, the student-athlete is exposed to the competition in the area which allows for extra practice and fine-tuning of skills. We are an accredited recruiting/combine agency.

1. How many schools do Texas Top Prospects interact with?

Currently, we interact with 48 Universities and Colleges at Division 1, 2, 3, NAIA, and Junior College levels and are constantly looking to expand our reach.

2. What information will be included in services?

We offer a comprehensive profile consisting of each player’s physical attributes, performance metrics, strengths, (needs to work on – should we be listing this?), athletic accomplishments, and scholastic information, volunteer and public service commitments, current news, as well as each player’s contact information. An example profile is available at: https://texastopprospect.com/profile-set-up.

3. How will we know what schools to target for you?

TTP is committed to working hand in hand with you and your student-athlete to target the best available schools based on each student athlete’s strengths, performance, and accolades in order to develop a plan to best serve your recruiting needs. As such, we encourage that each TTP student-athlete should aim to set themselves up for their best chance at success.

Each student-athlete should be wholly committed to developing relationships with potential college choices as well as preparing academically to succeed on their SAT, ACT, high school curriculum, GPA, school clubs, and community service in order to reach their goals and beyond.
