Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Rodriguez.
Hi Patricia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I started making chocolate covered strawberries for my friends and family. In 2019, I told my boyfriend that it was a good idea for us to make some chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day, little did we know this would become a full time job for me! We quickly grew, it took us a while to get a little better at making these amazing treats. I ended up quitting my full time job, and dedicated my time to making treats for everyone! We were making about 20-30 orders a week. It’s been 3 years now and we still enjoy making these super yummy treats!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We started off not knowing much, we just knew how to dip a strawberry. So we thought. We struggled a lot to find the perfect chocolate, the perfect packaging, and the perfect toppings. We have had some struggles but I would like to say we have gotten the hang of it for the most part. Running a small business is no joke, especially during days like Valentine’s Day which is our most busiest day in the whole year, this year we were able to fulfill 150+ orders with the help of our wonderful family!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Omini’s Berries started back in 2019, my boyfriend and I started this business, when it came down to finally getting the courage to make a business page, we had no name for our business. My boyfriend’s name is Omar and my nickname is Nini, one of our friends put it together and it sounded so cute, Omini’s Berries. We specialize in chocolate covered strawberries, but we also make other goodies such as chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered oreos, chocolate covered rice krispies, cheesecake cups and fresas con crema! We try to make everyone’s tastebuds happy. Omini’s Berries has grown so much over the last 3 years, something we didn’t see coming. Our business page on Instagram has also grown so much with about 5K followers. We have attended a few cool pop ups which are our favorite thing to do, since everyone can just come and buy whatever goodies they want without a limit!
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I was working full time, going to school full time while also making berries! It came down to being super blessed with work that I was able to quit my job for about a year to focus on school and making berries! I graduated with my bachelor’s degree and the berries kept me going!
For a while, my boyfriend was the one who would draw on berries because I didn’t know how at the moment, he would come after work or before work to it for me. I was scared to do it because I’m not a great artist. After a while I gained confidence and started drawing on berries, although I’m still not the best at drawing on them, I’m not as afraid as I was before!
