Community Highlights: Meet Morgan Taplin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Taplin.

Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At a young age, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, straight out of high school I started my first business as a freelance photographer. Throughout the time I went through 5 businesses, trying to find my niche. Now, 10 years later I have an event planning and decorating company, Morgan Taplin Events.

Along with a nonprofit supporting and educating minority female entrepreneurs, Female Executives Of Texas.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In San Antonio, the African American population is 7% which results in us being a subsidized community. As a black female entrepreneur, making history in San Antonio I have experienced difficulties receiving validation and regard.

As you know, we’re big fans of Female Executives Of Texas and Morgan Taplin Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Female executives of Texas is a nonprofit community for female minority entrepreneurs providing educational events, community, and networking.

We are set apart from others as the first of its kind in San Antonio that is minority-owned and funded. We are also the first to create awards for minority female entrepreneurs to be recognized at the end of the year.

Morgan Taplin Events focuses on curating experiences. We are an all-female event planning and decorating company. We strive to set our client’s events apart from anything their guest have seen in San Antonio Texas.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking is my second language. I have started businesses in the food industry, apparel, services, and nonprofits. I believe the best way to start is just to do it and that alone is a risk. Risk is fun, you only fail if you don’t try.
