Community Highlights: Meet Miji Kim of MJ Integrative Wellness, Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miji Kim.

Hi Miji, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into East Asian medicine was born out of a profound personal transformation. In 2015, I faced significant health challenges that conventional treatments could not fully address. It was through acupuncture that I experienced a life-changing recovery, which gave me a deep calling to master this ancient wisdom. This led me to officially begin my studies in 2016, and now, a decade later, that personal recovery remains the heartbeat of my practice.

I completed my Master’s degree in Anaheim, California, and immediately began practicing as a licensed acupuncturist. For the next five years, I dedicated myself to clinical work while building deep roots and meaningful relationships with my patients. Driven by a desire to provide the highest level of care, I furthered my expertise by earning my Doctorate in San Diego.

I was at a point where I was ready to open my own practice in California when my husband’s career led our family to Kerrville, Texas. Leaving my patients was the hardest part of the move, so to ensure their continued care, I took great care to personally connect each of them with trusted colleagues before departing. After moving to Texas, I eventually found a wonderful synergy with SALT Wellness and Sports Recovery, which became the home where I could finally launch MJ Integrative Wellness, Inc. and serve the Texas Hill Country community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While my passion for healing has never wavered, the transition to a new state brought significant hurdles. Leaving a thriving practice in California was a deeply emotional process. My commitment to my patients was so strong that even after moving to Texas, I continued to prepare and send herbal formulas to my California patients until last year to ensure their health remained stable.

The most difficult period was waiting for my Texas state license. Because the process took much longer than anticipated, I found it heartbreaking to meet people in the community who were suffering and waiting for acupuncture treatments while I was unable to provide them. For someone whose identity is so deeply tied to helping others, being in a state of limbo for many months was a true test of patience and faith. However, those struggles allowed me to deeply observe the needs of the local community and reaffirmed my mission to bring high-quality integrative care to this region.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At MJ Integrative Wellness, Inc., I specialize in treating the “whole person” rather than just isolated symptoms. My clinical focus includes Pain Management, Internal Wellness such as digestive issues and stress, Infertility, and Women’s Health including hormonal balance. I also have extensive experience treating complex neurological symptoms like numbness and tingling, which often leave patients seeking answers when conventional medicine offers limited solutions.

What truly sets me apart is my perspective as a healer who was once a patient. I don’t just treat symptoms; I listen to the person behind the pain. I am particularly proud of the trust I build with my patients through meticulous attention to detail. Whether it is an athlete looking to optimize performance or an individual struggling with chronic conditions, my brand is known for providing a bridge between physical recovery and emotional well-being. I want our readers to know that MJ Integrative Wellness is a partner in your health journey, dedicated to honoring the body’s natural ability to heal.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is that I view my work through the lens of philosophy and art as much as I do through medical science. I often describe myself as a “collector of moments of joy.” Every time a patient finds relief, I feel a surge of gratitude for the opportunity to share this amazing medicine. My greatest happiness comes from knowing that a patient is no longer suffering and that I was able to help them.

I have been moved by many profound cases throughout my practice. I once treated a patient with severe, recurring headaches. My clinical intuition told me something was wrong, so I urged them to get an MRI. This led to the early detection of brain cancer, and the patient later came to thank me, saying my care helped them endure the pain during that difficult journey. I also remember a dentist with severe wrist pain who had a paralyzing fear of needles; after experiencing how much acupuncture enabled them to continue their practice, they became a regular patient. Another rewarding case involved a teenager who had not had a period for over a year but resumed her cycle just one month after starting treatment. These moments of recovery and the deep gratitude of my patients are what keep me inspired and in love with the wonder of East Asian medicine.
