Community Highlights: Meet Leslee Owen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslee Owen.

Hi Leslee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m going to start my story with the birth of my first child. Not only did I bring home a brand new baby boy 12 years ago, but I also came home as a “working mom.” I was already working full time and now was thrust into the world of “balancing it all.” It’s been a long journey of mistakes and successes, and what I like to call “mommy whiplash.”

You know, feeling guilty for working so much that you hit the brakes on your career and go full throttle with the mom things, but then feel lost and without purpose. The back and forth is exhausting. I hit an all-time low in the middle of the pandemic when my dream of becoming Marketing Director at the company I was at slowly slipped through my fingers because I simply could not keep up with the demands of work and 4 homeschooled kids.

I chose to step out of the corporate world and pick up the consulting business I had set aside a number of years ago. Through many tears, therapy sessions, and support from my incredible husband, family, and community of sisters through Babes Support Babes – @bsbsatx, I crafted the life I have always desired that allowed me to pursue both my mission and motherhood.

I knew I had to share this with as many moms as possible and just launched the Mission and Motherhood Podcast in May!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say the biggest struggle I experienced was a complete loss of identity.

During that time of transition from corporate to consulting my family also stepped away from the church we had attended and ministered at for 20 years. It was a shock and major readjustment for all of us.

When I was no longer that “corporate woman,” “pastor’s wife,” and “perfect mommy” I was left with an empty version of myself. It was terrifying to wonder who I was now, but I thank God for his faithfulness in reminding me who I had always been, and just needed to get reacquainted with.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a marketing consultant, business coach, trainer, and speaker. I work with businesses that desire to holistically change the lives of women and am using this experience to transform the way moms work and live.

I know what it’s like to face the tension of choosing between work and motherhood. It’s soul-draining. Through the Mission and Motherhood Podcast and future group coaching programs, I desire to create a step-by-step framework for women to implement that allows them to confidently pursue their passions while cultivating a thriving family.

Offering my experience running a successful consulting business gives women the lift they are looking for in their own careers, while raising 4 kids and pursuing a happy marriage, reminds them I “get” the demands of home.

Here’s what I am not doing – I am not handing out permission slips for women to do it all! No! I am asking them to get ruthless in cutting out what doesn’t matter for what does. Identifying our primary focus in the most important parts of our lives is game-changing.

It’s not for every woman, especially when it’s a choice between good and great. It’s for the woman who is done doing life by our hustle culture’s standards.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
The best way for women to enter into this conversation is to listen to the Mission and Motherhood Podcast! You can find it here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mission-and-motherhood/id1626934726.
