Community Highlights: Meet Keith Larson of PetographyTX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Larson.

Hi Keith, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Petography because of my own dog, Roxie.

When she was in my life, I didn’t think much about documenting the everyday moments. I assumed there would always be more time. More walks. More afternoons. More chances to grab the camera. And when she was gone, I realized how few real photographs I had of her… the kind that truly captured her personality and the bond we shared.

That regret changed me.

What began as a personal realization turned into an idea. I started photographing other people’s dogs with a different perspective. Not just to create beautiful images, but to preserve connection. The way a dog looks at their owner. The quiet loyalty. The unspoken trust. Those details matter.

Over time, PetographyTX evolved into a belief: our pets are family, and their time with us is limited. My work focuses on cinematic, natural imagery that feels timeless… photos that don’t just sit on a phone, but live on walls and in albums for years to come.

Roxie is the reason I do this. Every session is a reminder that these moments aren’t guaranteed. Preserving them is one of the most meaningful investments we can make.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road.

Building PetographyTX while working full-time, being a husband, and raising a young son has stretched me more than I expected. There have been moments of exhaustion, self-doubt, and questioning whether I could really turn what started as “Petography SA” into something lasting and meaningful.

Losing my dog Roxie is what started this, but carrying that regret also fuels me. I know what it feels like to wish you had just one more photograph.

Truthfully, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my wife Brandi. She believed in me when this was just an idea. She supported long nights, getting me up for the early mornings, equipment upgrades, and the risk of building something from the ground up knowing it could be leveled at any moment. PetographyTX exists because she believed it could.

The challenges didn’t slow it down…they shaped it. What started as something small has become something intentional, built with purpose and long-term legacy in mind.

We’ve been impressed with PetographyTX, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
PetographyTX is a premium pet photography brand based in central Texas focused on one thing; documenting the real connection between pets and their people.

We aren’t interested in trendy setups or gimmicks. What we care about is legacy. The way a dog looks at their owner. The way they sit close without being asked. Those moments are subtle, but they matter.

What sets PetographyTX apart is the intention behind it. The lighting, the editing, the color consistency – everything is designed to feel natural, warm, and timeless. We want these images to hold up years from now, not feel like a trend from a certain season.

The brand started as Petography SA. It was small and simple at first. Over time it evolved into something more refined and more purposeful. Today we offer private portrait sessions, event coverage, and select business marketing sessions – all built around quality over volume.

At the end of the day, this business exists because we know what it feels like to wish you had just one more photo of your beloved family pet. PetographyTX is about making sure other families don’t have that regret.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I don’t see myself as reckless. I see myself as calculated.

Starting PetographyTX was a risk. Investing in equipment, rebranding from Petography SA, committing to a premium position instead of competing on price. Those weren’t small decisions. Especially while working full-time and supporting a family.

For me, risk isn’t about jumping without thinking. It’s about believing strongly enough in something that you’re willing to put time, money, and reputation behind it.

The bigger risk, honestly, would have been not doing it. Not building something of my own. Not honoring the reason this started in the first place.

Every upgrade, every late night editing, every step toward refining the brand has involved risk. But I’d rather take controlled risks in pursuit of something meaningful than stay comfortable and wonder what could have been.
