Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Scott.
Hi K., so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was young I’ve always had my hand in some type of business venture. In my Senior Book where it asks what you want to be when you grow up my answer was, “A CEO of multiple businesses.” That desire still remains true to this day.
Fashion is something I’ve always been passionate about. In high school, I would make outfits out of blue jeans, cut up and add rhinestones to t-shirts and even athletic jerseys and sell them to my friends and other girls in the neighborhood. At the time I didn’t see it as a potential business because it was just something I loved to do. As I got older I began to see other people making big money doing what I once considered a hobby. I knew I had to find a way to do the same. Years went by but the dream never went away.
Once the Pandemic hit, I had to sit down and figure out how to make that dream become a reality.
Graphic tees have always been a staple piece of my wardrobe. One could easily say I collect them because of the amount I own. So when it came time to decide what type of clothing business I wanted to create starting an apparel line was a no-brainer.
WordSpeak Apparel was launched in October of 2020 and we haven’t looked back since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been far from smooth. There have been many obstacles along the way, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world. One of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced in the apparel industry is having to find ways to differentiate my brand in a market that is so saturated. It’s easy to get discouraged when you see so many people doing what you do.
You constantly have to remind yourself that there’s room for everyone to be successful. No one can do it like you. You just have to find the consumers you’re meant to reach and show up for them consistently.
Everything I’ve been through has made me stronger and wiser. It also makes me appreciate how far I’ve come and remain hopeful for what lies ahead.
As you know, we’re big fans of WordSpeak Apparel. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
WordSpeak Apparel is a quality brand created to speak life, love, and motivation in style. Each item is specially designed and handmade with love. We offer “Exclusive Collections” that are available for a limited time only. Once they are gone they do not return.
When you wear our brand our desire is that you not only feel good but that you understand the power of the words you speak. Our motto is “Words speak life or death… choose wisely!” (Proverbs 18:21).
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
One of the biggest lessons I learned from the Covid-19 Crisis is you don’t have time to waste. You must go after every dream you have, even if you don’t think you’re ready. As one of my mentors (in my head) always says, “It has to work or it has to work.”
That is the mindset you have to keep. That doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes or there won’t be problems along the way. As long as you put in the work and remain persistent everything will eventually work itself out.
