Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayden Roberts.
Hi Jayden, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for cars started when I first got my license at 16 and got my first car, which was a 1997 Mazda 626. Growing up in a single-parent household, we didn’t have much money, so most if not all, of the repairs were on me. From there, I became a do-it-yourselfer and would buy tools and parts as my car needed and if I didn’t know how to do a job, I would try to look it up or research it online or even ask different people at auto parts stores. Eventually, I came to love fixing and preparing my own vehicle, so I decided to make it a career. During high school, I took an extracurricular class in their automotive technology department in the North E School District. Eventually finishing my automotive technology degree after high school at Penn Foster College. Along the way, I would fix family and friends’ cars and slowly buy more tools and gain more experience. After I got my associate’s degree. I set out to start my own business, J and E Auto, in August of 2020. Over the years, I have no regrets about starting my own business. It has helped me learn so many lessons about life and about myself. In the beginning, I had to learn how I wanted to develop my business as far as how to gain clientele and marketing, how I wanted my business presented, and my company culture. Which brings me to today: now, having been in business for 6 years, I love what I do, and I love solving problems and making my customers happy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not. I had a lot of bumps in the road starting up my own business. One of the problems was gaining customers and having a loyal customer base. This was compounded by the fact that I started my business during COVID, so there wasn’t any chance of me canvassing neighborhoods or going to parts stores and advertising at the different auto parts stores or anything of the like where it was in-person marketing. So most of my marketing was through social media; this helped me push myself to present myself and my company in an attractive and professional way online. I would offer discounts or promotions online, and I would push myself to be consistently online for my business. Naturally, I am a people person and an extrovert, but even with this kind of advertising, I still had to push myself to be out in the public digitally. Another bump in the road was in the beginning of my business, learning to do the “back-end” of owning your own business, which includes things like accounting and taxes. Neither had I had any experience in doing, nor did I have any clue as to where to start. So, like anyone else, when you don’t know what to do, I had to do a lot of researching online through various government websites and tax forms and documents and learn to use different accounting software websites. This helped me become a more self-determined individual and gave me insight into how much effort goes into running a business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
J and E Auto is a mobile mechanic and maintenance service company. We repair all gasoline and light-duty diesel vehicles as well as small engine equipment. We also complete maintenance on small fleets of vehicles or equipment for our commercial customers. The beauty of this is that we come to our customers wherever they may be, at home, at work, or on the job site. What sets us apart from other mobile mechanics or mechanic shops is that we do our very best to diagnose a vehicle before we repair it. We are not “part swappers,” as our industry would say, nor are we “code readers”. A lot of times, to find the heart of the issue or complaint from a customer, we take a lot of time diagnosing an issue, which in the long run saves the customer money and time and saves us time and money from completing a bunch of work that neither addressed the customer’s complaint nor did the car or equipment need.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can support me and my business by liking, sharing, or following My Business J and E Auto on Instagram or Facebook. Otherwise, they can share our Google Maps page, which is under the name J and E Auto (Mobile). Or lastly, they can contact me at my business cell phone 210-920-0923 for services and complete a Google Maps review.
