Today we’d like to introduce you to Harrieth Stewart.
Hi Harrieth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
i knew my move from Scandinavia to TX would be a life changer, going from corporate to making a living with horses is quiet a change. But horses have always been my passion, and after meeting Texas, I knew instantly that it was the place i was suppose to be at. What exactly I was gonna do was not clear at all. i trained horses for horse traiders, took a certificate in equine sports massage and worked at rodeos, run the girlscouts riding program and traided horses and mules for people. But one day i run in to a man that worked at a guest ranch, or dude ranch…. and he told me his dream was to run his own guided horseback string. i told him that it was not a bad idea at all, i actually had two retrained horses (formally rumbunctious bronks) and we could try to do that togheter….. so we started. Today we have 33horses, a small ranch with cows. The mission is to make people enjoy the horses, and prove to all, that these unwanted horses we take in, can do a job. Majority of horses that are from killpen, some are local surrenders that people cannot handle. but all have be rehabilitated and retrained here with us. And it is so humbling to se them recover and again find a place in life and purpose, and then be able to share the story with our guests. The Rescue Program is named Major Hope Corrall, that is after a very special horse that made all this possible. And the service we offer to support these horses is under Bandera Historical Rides, where we proudly can share the old Cowboy Town, stories and lifestyle with people from all over the world
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
lol… of course not ever easy to start own business. every day is 12-16h work. the hardest part, but the best part is that we work with living beings, that are very dear to us. And underlying for me personally is of course a bit of cultural differences. As much as i feel im a natural born Texan, there are tings that differs
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We offer horseback riding experiences, guided tours, ranch stay, campouts and horsemanship classes. We rescue, rehabilitate and retrain horses that we then offer a job here at our business. We operate under bandera historical rides
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
We have taken major risks, in every aspect of our business. We had no fundings at all to start with, and still all revenue is immediately going to investment. we have personally no insurances and even our business activity offered is high risk activity. So our daily life for the last 10 year has been constant risk taking
