Community Highlights: Meet Elyssa Martinez of Hair By Elyssa Denise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elyssa Martinez.

Hi Elyssa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Well, I knew I always had a passion for beauty since I was a little girl. I always loved to do my makeup and hair in different styles. I finally decided to go for my dreams and goals when I had my son at nineteen years old being a single mom. I then knew I had to push myself to be better. I enrolled myself in Ogle cosmetology school in March 2018, graduating the next year in January 2019. I started working from home shortly after getting licensed in the State of Texas. I worked for a year in a half at home building my clientele multitasking still being a mom at the same time of working. Finally, I knew it was only right to take the next step in expanding my business into something I’ve always dreamed of. In July of 2020, I opened up my own salon suite located inside Phenix Salon Suites. It was honestly the best decision I’ve ever made being in the beauty industry. My work started to been seen more, bookings increased and for that, I am so grateful for all my clients and supporters, without them my dream would’ve never turned into reality. Now I am 24 years old living my childhood dream, I don’t plan to stop here. The sky is the limit.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. I’d be lying if I said it was easy. Having your own business isn’t something that comes overnight, you have to work for it no matter what life throws at you and we all have those rough days. Sometimes, business does slow down, unfortunately, that’s all businesses especially when first opening but you got to stand strong, be positive, promote and keep going.

We’ve been impressed with Hair By Elyssa Denise, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a cosmetologist as I’ve mention before. I offer women’s hair color, cuts, styles and updo. Such as Balayage, which is my specialty. I also offer foilayage, traditional highlights, baby lights and all the trendy styles. I’m mostly known for my balayages, that technique is my most requested. The brands I use on my clients are Wella Professional, Jocio, Goldwell and of course the famous Olaplex. What sets me apart from other is I go above and beyond to make sure my client is satisfied with their results and I make sure I accommodate each individual’s needs.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always outgoing, outspoken and adventurous. I’m not a serious person, I always laugh and joke about everything. I just remember being a little girl wanting to playing dress up all the time. I was always doing my mom’s and aunt’s makeup and hair for fun. When I was nine til high school I was a cheerleader/dancer again makeup and hairstyles all around me. Any girly things was my most interest growing up especially anything glittery and pink!
