Community Highlights: Meet Aysel Garcia of Lady Tamal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aysel Garcia.

Hi Aysel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Aysel and I’m a 17-year-old artist who loves to brings joy to others through my creations. I also enjoy cooking, especially when my mom and I would make tamales.  I decided to merge my love for creating with the joy of cooking, and that’s how Lady Tamal was born- it was the perfect combination. Bringing joy to others through my tamales made with Love! The decision to make them vegan was conceived by seeing my older sister who is vegan struggle to get delicious vegan food at a reasonable price. I was also very excited to learn and try new vegan alternatives. This business gave me the chance to feel more confident and break out of my shell. I’ve learned to embrace me and ignore the negative thoughts that hold me back.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a smooth road, I just have to overcome some self doubt.

We’ve been impressed with Lady Tamal, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My specialty is 100% vegan tamales made from scratch. With my tamales, I want to spread a positive message of love by spreading the gospel. I take great pleasure in making my tamales with fresh ingredients to provide a quality product. My vision is to have a diverse variety of unique flavors and be 100% eco-friendly. With my brand I want people to know that you don’t have to sacrifice taste to be vegan.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Stepping out of my comfort zone was a big struggle for me because there was a risk of rejection. But without taking risk there’s no reward. I’m 100% invested in my business to the point that I left public school to be homeschooled, in order to have more time for Lady Tamal.

Pricing:
