Community Highlights: Meet Asencion Escajeda of Studio 27 Hair Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asencion Escajeda.

Hi Asencion , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey hasn’t been easy, and it definitely hasn’t been perfect. Like a lot of entrepreneurs, I started with nothing more than a strong work ethic, a vision, and the willingness to take risks when there were no guarantees.

I entered the beauty industry because I loved the craft, but I stayed because I saw how powerful it could be. Hair isn’t just about appearance — it’s about confidence, identity, and how people feel when they walk out the door. Early on, I realized I didn’t want to just work behind a chair forever. I wanted to build something meaningful — a space where clients felt respected and where stylists had real opportunities to grow, earn, and build careers.

Opening Studio 27 Hair Salon pushed me in ways I didn’t expect. There were long days, late nights, financial stress, and moments when I questioned if I was doing the right thing. I made mistakes — with people, with systems, and with trust. Some lessons were expensive, and others were personal. I learned very quickly that being talented doesn’t automatically make you a good leader.

One of the hardest lessons was understanding that you can’t build something strong without structure. For a long time, I tried to do everything myself. I thought working harder would fix everything. Instead, it led to burnout. The turning point came when I realized that growth required boundaries, clear expectations, and accountability — not just for my team, but for myself.

I began focusing on systems, communication, policies, and culture. I learned how to lead, not just manage. I learned how to say no, how to protect the business, and how to build a team that shared the same standards and values.

What makes Studio 27 different is intention. We’re not chasing trends — we’re building consistency, professionalism, and trust. Every consultation, every service, and every interaction is done with purpose. We don’t just change hair; we help people feel confident and seen.

Today, I’m proud of how far Studio 27 has come — not because it’s perfect, but because it’s real. The salon is growing, the team is stronger, and the vision is clearer than ever. Looking ahead, my goal is expansion, mentorship, and creating opportunities for others to succeed without having to learn everything the hard way like I did.

My story is still being written, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: growth comes from honesty, discipline, and the courage to keep going when it would be easier to quit.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening Studio 27 was much harder than I expected. Financial pressure was constant in the beginning — covering rent, supplies, and unexpected expenses while barely paying myself. Cash flow was a real challenge and a big source of stress.

Building the right team was another struggle. I trusted the wrong people early on and didn’t set clear expectations, which led to setbacks and difficult decisions. Learning to let go and have tough conversations was one of the hardest but most necessary lessons.

The biggest challenge was leadership. I went from stylist to business owner overnight and had to learn how to set boundaries, create structure, and make decisions that weren’t always popular. There were moments of doubt and exhaustion, but those struggles forced me to grow and ultimately shaped the foundation of Studio 27.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Studio 27 Hair Salon?
Studio 27 Hair Salon specializes in hair extensions, balayage, all-over color, and precision haircuts. We focus on creating customized looks that fit each client’s lifestyle, not just trends. Education and technique are a big part of what we do, which allows us to deliver consistent, high-quality results.

What we’re especially known for is our customer service. From the consultation to the final result, we prioritize communication, professionalism, and making sure every client feels heard and valued. We believe the experience matters just as much as the service, and that mindset has helped us build long-term relationships and a strong reputation in the community.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time with family and feeling a strong sense of togetherness. Those moments taught me the importance of connection, respect, and showing up for people — values that still guide how I run my business today.
