Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Blumrich.
Hi Amber, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Im Amber and my husband Aaron and I met in Kerrville, TX where we grew up. We were married in 2010 and we moved to Seguin, TX in 2011. I have a background in the medical field and my husband worked in the IT field. We both worked full time and we felt like we didn’t have enough time for each other, ourselves, or our families. So in 2014 we decided to take a risk; I quit my job to start a small house cleaning business. When I was younger, my mom ran a cleaning service, and I worked alongside her off and on, so I already had some hands-on experience and I knew this type of business could offer me the schedule I was needing. When I first began on my own, I started with just one client and honestly wondered how I would ever make it financially viable. But within a few months, word of mouth grew, and my client base expanded quickly. Before I knew it, I was working several days each week and building steady, trusting relationships with homeowners in the community. Then came 2020 and the uncertainty of COVID. Like many small business owners, I was nervous — most residential clients paused their services due to lockdowns and safety concerns. However, that unexpectedly became a turning point for my business. While home cleanings slowed, many offices that remained open needed professional cleaning services to keep their spaces safe. My husband I started working together and we stepped in to meet the needs of our local businesses. Having Aaron team up with me allowed us to pivot which not only helped sustain the company during a difficult time, but it also broadened our scope from primarily residential cleaning to commercial work. Since then, the business has continued to grow steadily. Today, I’m proud that what began as a small, uncertain venture has become a thriving service built on reliability, care, and strong community relationships.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new business is never without its challenges, and over the years we’ve certainly faced our share. One of the biggest hurdles in the beginning was building a reliable team of professionals around me. When you’re just getting started, you have questions about everything; from banking, accounting, insurance and so on. I quickly learned how critical it is to have the right team of professionals supporting you. Once I found people I could trust and work well with, it made a tremendous difference in keeping the business running smoothly and confidently.
Another ongoing challenge — and one many small business owners can relate to — is maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I’ve found that it’s easy to feel like you’re always “on the clock,” especially when your business is growing. For me, that means I have to be very intentional about setting boundaries, taking time off, and reminding myself that it’s okay to step away from work. That balance is essential to avoid burnout and to preserve the quality time with my family, which was one of the main reasons I started this business in the first place. It’s not something you perfect once — it’s something you continually reassess and adjust as your business evolves.
As you know, we’re big fans of Magnolia Cleaning Services . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Magnolia Cleaning Services is a janitorial company that focuses primarily on serving commercial clients. We offer services in Seguin and surrounding areas. While I began with residential cleaning, our work today is centered almost entirely on commercial spaces. We service a wide range of facilities, including doctor’s offices, corporate offices, factories, and production plants — essentially any type of commercial environment that requires consistent, professional janitorial maintenance. What truly defines us, however, is our commitment to quality and reliability. In janitorial services, what clients are really investing in is labor, so we treat that as our most important product. Our team is efficient, but never rushed; we are thorough, detail-oriented, and very mindful in the way we approach every job.
I’ve also intentionally kept my business relatively small so that I can remain hands-on with our work. This allows me to personally oversee many of our jobs and ensure that our high standards are consistently maintained for every client we serve.
What I’m most proud of is our reputation. When we earn a client, we tend to keep them — we have very little turnover, and cancellations are rare. That tells me that our work speaks for itself.
For me, that kind of loyalty reflects not only the quality of our cleaning, but also the relationships we build with our clients. I take pride in being dependable, communicative, and trustworthy. Knowing that businesses feel confident continuing to work with us long-term is one of the greatest markers of success in my opinion.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The word that comes to mind when I think about what has allowed me to be successful is “stick-to-itiveness.” A friend once used that term with me, and it has really stayed with me ever since. To me, it means being fully committed to something worthwhile — not just when things are going smoothly, but especially when challenges arise.
It’s easy to stay motivated when business is thriving and everything feels manageable. The real test comes in those moments when things feel overwhelming or uncertain. In those times, I’ve learned to keep moving forward, trust what I know works, and remain consistent in my efforts.
While persistence has been essential to my success, I can’t take credit on my own. I owe so much to my family — especially my husband, my mom, and my brother — who supported me wholeheartedly from the very beginning when I decided to start this business. Their encouragement and belief in me gave me the confidence to move forward, even when I felt unsure.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my friends, who have been constant cheerleaders along the way. They’ve lifted me up during the overwhelming moments and reminded me that I can do this, even when it felt like too much. Their support has meant more to me than they probably even realize, and it has truly been a vital part of my success.
