Community Highlights: Meet Abel Gomez of Burst Athletic Performance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abel Gomez.

Hi Abel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Journey began at Texas A&M University where my love for sports had me aiming to walk onto the football team. My focus went to researching and discovering the best methods for improving my athletic ability. That research led me to meeting and learning from our Strength and Conditioning Coaches at A&M and be absolutely fascinated by what they did as a profession. Those connections eventually helped me land an internship, as a part of my undergrad degree, with our Strength and Conditioning Staff where I soaked up as much information and knowledge as was possible.

When I graduated, I left to work as an assistant strength coach at Missouri Southern State University to further my experience and begin my career. There I coached and worked with Men’s and Women’s Track & Field, Football, Golf, and Dance Team. It was a great experience and thankfully my Coaching ability grew, but this job also taught me that working in the Collegiate setting wasn’t the avenue I wanted to continue to pursue.

Concluding that year in Missouri, I felt led to move to San Antonio to build a brand of Athletic Performance and Personal Fitness Training. I felt both then and now that my purpose was to help others in the realm of physical health and performance.

I’m grateful to have the individuals, teams, and families who have allowed me to do just that. I personally train a few adults currently, work with a few club teams exclusively, and train various athletes both in the weight room to build their physical prowess as well as on the field to maximize Speed and Power Development.

One of my main realms of focus is to bring Speed Development Skills to sports teams and athletes. Despite the long time saying, Speed Can Be Taught!

Speed is and will always be a great separator in sports of those successful and not, and I’d like to help the athletes of San Antonio realize their full potential and maximize our competitiveness. Whether they want to see more playing time in the sport they love, take their competitiveness to a new level, or have a chance to play in college, we want to be there for our athletes and help them grow physically, mentally, and in character.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is anything but an easy and smooth road from my experience and from what I read from others’ experiences. What I understand now, is that this is all a journey. A journey of growth and learning which over time helps you to become the type of person who can achieve your goals and realize the vision we first dreamt about.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Burst Athletic Performance?
Our mission is to help athletes become the very best versions of themselves both physically and mentally. We aim to maximize speed, power, quickness and strength while minimizing the chance of injury through improving movement skills and structural balance.

As a former collegiate strength and conditioning coach with 15 years of experience, we are confident in our ability to help individual athletes and teams make the most of their God given gifts and desires.

We specifically aim to bring the skills of Speed Development to San Antonio and the surrounding area. Speed Can Be Taught and we can bring a new level of competitiveness to our city’s teams and athletes!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Fulfilling my God given purpose. Loving others by helping them to become the best version of themselves. Being in a position to give and help those around us.
