Today we’d like to introduce you to Venomous Versus.
Hello Venomous Versus, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We started freestyling in our algebra high school class, trying to think of and spit out as many rhymes as possible while making sense. Since then, Tha Luck Capital C and friends have joined me in the Socorro, TX, backyard shows. Now calling ourselves Venomous Versus, we made it our mission to fight the new mumble rap era of hip hop by bringing that nostalgic 90s rap sound to Rob Nice’sNice’s community college ciphers and Robs Rapseminar Hip hop Events, along with Barbed Wire open mics and many others. All these events and the local support of our peers and influences have contributed to our appearance in El Paso’s City magazine, strengthening our confidence to push further past city limits into streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. Today, we are still pushing borders in the music industry, aspiring to wake our name to those within the industry’s walls.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest part of our journey is staying patient and not rushing into anything we do towards reaching our success. It seems like decades, or forever, we’ve been chasing this goal, and no matter how much breaching we’ve done for our success, the ability to stay consistent with ourselves, our fans, and our music is always a challenging task. Having each other’s backs and having our city remind us of our greatness is always what keeps us going and staying true to our mission.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Rapping is something other than what we say we do. We are lyricists who specialize in bringing the most complex rhymes combined with the stories not only people can relate to but also feel as if they were put in our shoes to showcase our viewpoint and outlook on many issues or reliefs of the world we encompass. Comic book-style punchlines with gritty descriptions paint how we bring the listeners our personality. We’ve been told how nostalgic our sound is concerning 90s-style Hip Hop sounds, and it’s what we are known for. What makes us proud is how much people love that sound, and we appreciate all the love our city and peers have shown us, making us honestly say that we are proud of where we are from!
Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
It has been more hard work than luck to play a part in our business, but the travails of our life have immensely impacted what we say and how we approach our music. At times, we’d call our tragedies in life terrible luck, but the truth is that it’s just life, and we want to show not just the youth but people from all walks of life that bad things happen. As an example for them, we work hard to reach stellar limits so they know that they can do the same in whatever they do.
