Check Out Rosie Meier’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Meier.

Hi Rosie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I opened Blue Heron Yoga 4 years ago, to share my love of yoga and fitness with my hometown community. Yoga has been a very spiritual practice for me, and has guided me through some very difficult times. I have seen how a daily practice of yoga can change a person mentally and physically, I have experienced it myself. The blue heron is a commonly found bird in Texas, especially in my hometown Comfort, Texas. Growing up, I always believed that seeing a blue heron means whatever negative things that are happening will dissipate, and it will become a positive. In simple terms, they are lucky to me and my family. When my brother passed away, it became his bird, whenever I saw one I knew my brother was with me, which means I am protected by him and God for what the day may bring. Seeing a heron in the morning, was always a sign that you will have a blessed and joyful day, because my brother, would be watching over me and my family. My wonderful, kindhearted, loving brother suffered from addiction, and due to that the world lost one of my favorite and loved person I have ever known. I have witnessed so many people suffering from addiction, and I have seen so many in recovery with the help of yoga. My yoga studio, Blue Heron Yoga is in remembrance of my greatly missed beloved brother, and the peaceful and graceful bird that reminds me that life is precious, brief, and beautiful. I am grateful for everyone who took the time to learn the backstory, and I am looking forward to meeting you on the mat! Let’s work together to make every day a Blue Heron day!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I told people I was leaving my full time reliable job to open a yoga studio, most people giggled. To say it hasn’t been a struggle somedays wouldn’t be true, but it has brought me more joy than I ever could imagine. Practicing daily yoga, for me reminds me that our body and mind are capable of so many incredible things and we are much stronger and more resilient than we realize. When I struggle on the mat, I try a new “modification” of the same pose that is more accessible to meet me where I am on the mat that day. This is same principle that I bring with me into my daily life and business. We all need to be more “flexible” with ourselves we are all still learning! While talking about being flexible, most people think they need to be more flexible to do yoga, with our classes we meet our clients where they are on the mat that day and move from there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Hello, my name is Rosie Meier, and I have lived in Comfort since 2000, my husband Chase grew up in here and we are raising our three wonderful daughters Jaci, Ryliee and Abbie in our wonderful hometown. As a young girl, three things I had always wanted to be was a wife, mother and teacher, I grew up practicing martial arts, riding horses, and have always had a love for yoga that was passed down to me from my beloved parents and grandfather. I remember as a child having conversations with my father while he was in a headstand, and my mother looking fierce in a Warrior 2 pose. As I grew so do did my love for yoga, as an young adult, it was for the physical side of the practice. As an adult and mother, I have also passed my love of yoga to my own daughters, but my practice has become so much more about the spiritual and mental aspects of the practice. I have worked in education for the last 9 years, I have always had a passion for teaching, before I entered working in education I worked in different part of the medical field, massage and physical therapy, working with patients battling cancer, and helping people through being an optician. I worked at St. Boniface School and Church as a teacher, and as a children’s Sunday school teacher. I left my beloved job working in the special education department at the local middle school, to help to spread my love for the physical, mental, and spiritual yoga practice and fitness with my wonderful community.

I am a Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher, and have been teaching for over 4 years full time at my yoga studio in Comfort, Texas Blue Heron Yoga, I also have been teaching yoga for over a year at Schreiner University.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The characteristic that I feel is most important to my success with teaching yoga and fitness classes is genuine joy. I love what I do everyday, and that I have the ability to share that with other people. I love watching my clients achieve and strive working out and moving with me. I love seeing them get stronger and better week after week, lose the stubborn weight, smile more because they feel better on the inside! I get to shared in their joy which makes me so unbelievably happy for them. I absolutely love my job of leading people towards a healthier version of the wonderful people they are already.
