Today we’d like to introduce you to Nasser Rodriguez
Hi Nasser, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I worked at a comic book store during college. One of the independent publishers I met, while working at the comic book store, started their own convention a few years after the store closed. They asked me to come onboard to book the comic book writer and artists guests for their convention. After 3 years, I left that convention and joined another San Antonio comic convention, in the same role. I stayed with that convention for only 1 year. I loved working for these conventions but always wished for a event that more focused on comic creators, instead of celebrities. During this time, lots was going on in my personal life, so I stopped reading comics. Like many of us, during the pandemic, I was looking for things to pass the time at home and found my way back to reading comic. Early 2022, I attended a convention for the first time in many years and ran into several artists and writers that I had booked during my convention days. While talking to them, I mentioned my idea of a comics focused event and they seemed really excited by the idea. So immediately after leaving the convention that day, I went home to start planning the first Comic Arts – San Antonio event and we had it 4 months later. 2024 will be our 3rd year.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our biggest challenges have been booking guests. Since we’re a one day show, it’s understandably a big time commitment for guests to fly in for only one day. Another challenge has been finding a mid-sized venue with available dates.

I’m proud that we focus on the writers and artists that create comics.
