Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Daly.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From as far as I can remember, I have always been so fascinated with cosmetology. While I was pursuing my nursing career, I worked part-time at a makeup department, as well as doing all of my family member’s makeup anytime they had a special occasion to earn some extra income. Making women feel good made me feel good!
I strongly believe that when you look good and you feel good about yourself, it adds a pep to your step and that confidence is powerful! When we are confident, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. About six years into my nursing career as a NICU nurse, I decided to venture out and redefine where my passion lies. It was then that I discovered my love for aesthetic nursing. I love the science of the human body and nursing fulfilled that for me. However, when I found that I could have the best of both worlds, I didn’t hesitate to jump into aesthetic nursing. I invested in this new career venture and attended training and conferences. Education is important to me; it is through learning that we evolve and grow as people.
Learning for me never stops, it is an ongoing journey. After working for health and wellness, and aesthetic spas, I ultimately made the decision to venture out and open my own medical spa, which is now Daly Addictions MedSpa and Aesthetics. My goal with Daly Addictions is to provide a variety of treatments that services the body as a whole.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my own business has not been easy. My first attempt did not go through as planned, but I knew I had to keep trying. Failure is not an end; it is an opportunity to try again and learn from what did not work the first time. In my journey as a small business owner, I have discovered so many things about myself, my strengths, and weaknesses, who I am, and what I truly value.
I have learned that my weaknesses do not define who I am. It sheds a light and a direction to what I need to work on. When venturing into something new, struggles along the way is inevitable. However, the struggles we experience can push the best out of us. It is through tough times that we are forced to dig deep and find our true strength and power.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Daly Addictions we provide an array of services such as facial dermal filler injections, wrinkle prevention treatment, PRF injections, PRF hair restoration, PDO thread treatments, IV vitamin hydration therapy and injections, and lastly Hydrafacials. We believe that our patients should be involved in their care. Prior to providing treatments, we consult with our patients to answer any questions or concerns they may have.
During this consult, we discuss their goals and their treatment options. Together we come up with a treatment plan that is best for them. At Daly Addictions, patient education is a priority. We make sure that every patient is fully aware of what each treatment entails. We ensure each patient is well informed on what they need to do prior to their appointment, what their responsibilities are after their treatments, and what possible complications are involved with their chosen procedures.
We believe in empowerment, the more educated our patients are the more they can be involved in their care.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Getting your foot in the door of aesthetic nursing can be challenging. I have had my own challenges, however, do not stop! Although you may receive more no’s, do not get discouraged. My advice is to apply to any Med Spas that are hiring.
The pay may not be great initially, but the goal is to gain experience. Experience is everything, you don’t get good at injecting people’s faces just by watching someone do it. Find someone willing to mentor you and don’t take the time they give to you for granted.
