Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Bedard.
Melissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I had a lifelong career as a business leader in fashion retail and had done really well in the industry until suddenly I become the casualty of corporate bankruptcy.
Since retail was already going through some significant changes (and this was pre-COVID) at the suggestion of a former employee, I made the decision to leave retail and become a coach. After researching the different coaching programs on the market, I signed up with the High-Performance Institute and became a Certified High-Performance Coach™.
It was a fairly easy transition into the role of a professional coach because it continued what I always loved about my role in retail and what had always occurred organically throughout my career…develop, inspire and motivate people…coaching is just a continuation of that calling.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Leaving corporate America to become an entrepreneur has had its challenges because “I didn’t know, what I didn’t know.”
The coaching piece of my business comes very naturally to me however I did not know the first thing about building a business from the ground up especially building the infrastructure, mostly on the tech side of things. The other struggle was finding “community’.
I didn’t realize how much I depended on my peer group, my boss, my employees for support, and finding that support outside of an organization took a while to find.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a Certified High-Performance Coach™, I help clients learn a very special set of skills for improving their performance.
Through the development of better habits… learning how to master their mind, body, productivity, and the ability to influence others… my clients learn how to find clarity in chaos, their unique voice and more belief in themselves all while challenging them to become the absolute best versions of themselves. As a High-Performance Coach™, I meet my clients where they are and help them gain more confidence in themselves by breaking through roadblocks to achieve greater successes, both personally and professionally.
In addition, I am also utilizing my fashion background and adding Personal Branding Coaching and Consulting to my CHPC™ services because when you are confident both on the inside AND the outside, you show up in a completely different way. I love that I am able to help my clients make significant and positive changes in their lives, helping them find more joy and happiness and less overwhelm both professionally and personally.
And what sets me apart is I do it with humility, grace, and enthusiasm all while trying to find FUN in the work that we are doing together.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that San Antonio has a strong commitment to its preservation…there is so much history and culture here and it has been well preserved.
Our city has character and culture that a lot of other big Texas cities no longer have. I am fortunate to live in a historic neighborhood and am the “caretaker of a 110-year-old historic home, in what is technically an “inner city” neighborhood and I never have to leave it…I have everything I need within a couple of blocks.
And I love that San Antonio still has a “small” town feel while ranking as the seventh-largest city in our nation. I love our ever-evolving food scene… there are so many great places to eat out. On the flip side, there is not one thing that I dislike about our city… I love living here!
