Check Out Marisa Hernandez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Hernandez

Hi Marisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I launched my blog MexiMoments.com after moving to Texas with my daughter from Michigan in 2015. I felt that starting a blog was an innovative way for me to share the new places and experiences I was having in San Antonio, especially since I didn’t really know anyone in Texas yet. I soon discovered how important it was to share these stories about new cultural experiences and narratives about navigating life as a single mom raising a teenager. I began connecting with people who were interested in my posts and could relate to the content I was sharing. This gave me the confidence to continue to share more inspirational stories and encourage women and young girls to share their stories of success, triumph, and occasionally hardship. I started my podcast, Girl Talk y Mas, in 2016, as I wanted to establish a community of strong, authentic, and empowering women and provide a space for us to celebrate our womanhood. By creating these platforms, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with companies like Chevrolet and H.E.B. and conduct interviews with numerous writers, actors, entrepreneurs, and role models in my community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have undoubtedly been ups and downs along the way. Even though I was motivated to share my experience, I also sometimes felt discouragement along the way. I often wondered if I should risk the criticism that comes with posting content online. The encouraging comments from listeners about the interviews and stories we shared on the podcast and blog is what inspired me to keep sharing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I was born and raised in Detroit Mi where I studied Television and Radio Broadcasting, Television Communications and Business Marketing. My professional background over the last 25 years includes working in traditional media advertising for a range of broadcast networks including, NBC, CBS, FOX, A&E and iHeart Media.

However my real passion was interviewing people that inspired me throughout my journey. Before I started my podcast, I first conducted interviews on my blog. I made contact with other women and entrepreneurs that I had come across through documentaries, TV shows, or magazines. One of my first interviews was with actress Andrea Navedo, whom I had grown up admiring as a fellow Latina and a positive influence in our community. As I developed my platforms, I came to the realization that social media allowed me to connect with many people in the media industry. I’m proud that I had the confidence to establish these platforms, which allowed me to connect with important members of our Hispanic community like Eugenio Derbez, Paulina Rubio, and Luis Fonsi.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to remain steadfast and loyal to your principles. Social media can easily divert your attention and be mentally draining. It’s a big responsibility to stay focused on your message and produce content that thousands of people are seeing.
