Today we’d like to introduce you to Marco Buenrostro
Hi Marco , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
This year, we’re celebrating 10 years of what started as just a side gig. MBP has become my life, and I absolutely love what I do. Over the past decade, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of so many incredible weddings and events, helping people capture memories in a unique and engaging way.
I recently launched a podcast called “The Tipsy Guest,” all about weddings! Each week, I interview wedding vendors to help engaged couples navigate the stress of planning their big day. We keep it local, so our listeners can connect with vendors who can truly bring their wedding vision to life.
Being the youngest of three in a Mexican family of migrant workers wasn’t easy. Growing up in a traditional household, working for someone else was the only path I knew. I don’t often talk about this because I don’t want it to define me, but seeing my family work tirelessly for others—who lived at a completely different standard—pushed me to dream of something more. I always envisioned becoming an entrepreneur, but it wasn’t until my late 20s that I realized I needed to take that leap and start something of my own.
At first, I wasn’t sure what kind of business I wanted to start—until I came across an article listing the top 10 businesses under $10K to launch. One of them was a photo booth business. Being social and outgoing, I knew this was a perfect fit since it involved going to events and meeting new people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a business is not easy, and while it might sound cliché, you always hear people say they quit their 9-5 job to have more freedom, only to realize that as a business owner, you actually work 24/7. And it’s true!
I have an amazing team that works our events, but behind the scenes, I’m a one-person operation. I handle everything, managing the website, running social media, responding to emails, sending contracts, answering calls, designing graphics, being the spokesperson, and so much more. It’s a lot, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m blessed to have a great team behind me (shoutout to Brett, Gigi, Jenny, and the rest of my staff!) who are always there to make our events a success.
One of the biggest struggles over the past decade was 2020, I mean, I don’t need to explain what happened; we all know the world shut down. The events industry took a huge hit, and like so many others, we had to figure out how to survive. But we overcame that obstacle, and honestly, since everything reopened in 2021, the industry has never been stronger. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m grateful for every challenge that has shaped MBP into what it is today!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At MBP Photo Booth, we help people create fun, lasting memories! At weddings, we bring the energy and keep guests entertained because let’s be real, not everyone dances or drinks. A photo booth is the perfect way to make the night special for every guest.
For corporate events, we take it to the next level by helping companies showcase their brand in a unique and interactive way. We specialize in creating engagement at conferences, galas, business events, open houses, concerts, and more. Our goal is to ensure that brands make an impact and that every guest walks away with an unforgettable experience.
What makes MBP stand out? We’re known for our attention to detail, exceptional customer service, and commitment to excellence at every event. One of my proudest accomplishments is maintaining a perfect record of online reviews for 10 years! That means the world to us! What truly sets us apart is that we genuinely care about our clients. We’re not just here to rent out a photo or video machine; we create a full experience that brings their vision to life.
And then there’s The Tipsy Guest Podcast, my passion project! We keep it fun, casual, and real, so our listeners don’t get bored. Each week, we interview local wedding vendors from San Antonio, Austin, and the Hill Country, making sure our engaged couples can actually connect with them. We don’t just cover the good stuff, we talk about the fun, the bad, the crazy, and everything in between! It’s all about helping couples navigate wedding planning in an authentic and entertaining way.
At the end of the day, whether it’s through MBP Photo Booth or the The Tipsy Guest Podcast, I love bringing people together, creating unforgettable moments, and making sure everyone has a damn good time!
What makes you happy?
On a professional level, nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients happy! Knowing that I’ve helped create an amazing experience for them. Whether it’s at a wedding, corporate event, or activation, makes all the hard work worth it.
On a personal level, traveling, Broadway shows, and concerts bring me the most joy! I work nonstop when I’m in town, so my true fun time is when I’m out exploring new places, seeing incredible performances, and experiencing different cultures.
And of course, my dogs make me so happy! I have two Boston Terriers, and coming home to them, being lazy, and watching reality TV is the best feeling ever.
