Check Out Lori Ziegler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Ziegler.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At a young age, I was always organizing. I would go to my friend’s houses and want to organize their closets. I still have the picture I took when I was 7 or 8 years old of my closet after I got done organizing it.

For me, organizing brings me peace and calms my nerves. I wanted to help others find peace with their space. I started my own business in 2018. After catering and running a restaurant I decided in 2021 to focus all my energy on growing my business.

Organizing clients’ spaces not only helps them save money by not buying duplicates but also frees up their time to spend doing what they love. Helping someone organize is very intimate. They allowed me into their lives and their memories.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Each client is different. Not all organizing solutions fit everyone. Some people like their stuff hidden behind a door, others like to see what they have. Pinterest and TikTok give great ideas, but a lot of times, they are not realistic.

I need to find organizing solutions that will fit each client 6 months down the road. Having beautiful and visually appealing bins and shelves is nice, but if the client doesn’t use them, it’s a waste of money. Organizing is about finding what works for that client. It may not always be picture-perfect.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I always try to use what my clients have in their homes first when organizing. Organizing shouldn’t break the bank. I don’t want to add to their stress by telling them that need to purchase fancy organizing solutions unless they want to. If they decide to buy, I will give a few options with different price points.

When a client hires me, they invite me into their home to show me what they don’t want anyone else to see. Confidentiality is number one. A client should never feel ashamed. I am not there to make them throw anything away or get rid of anything. I am there to support them while going through their stuff. Sometimes, they keep something someone else might think is trash. Sometimes all they need is to talk through it and then they can say goodbye. I am there to listen.

If they need me to, I can help talk them through letting go. There is never any judgment. Since organizing a client’s personal space and items is so intimate, we build a relationship. They share their memories as we look at pictures, mementos, and letters. I am honored to be allowed to share in those moments.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
My house is not always organized and perfect. I have to fight the urge to not keep the “perfect” box or glass jar. I have to talk myself out of buying things I don’t need. I love bins and have more than I need, but find it hard to get rid of them.
