Check Out Logan McDowell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan McDowell.

Hi Logan , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Seven years ago, I started McDowell Media with a camera, a lot of ambition, and honestly not much of a roadmap. What started as a creative outlet quickly became an obsession. Over the years I’ve photographed and filmed everything from models and brands to local businesses, events, and entrepreneurs. Every project taught me something different, and every chapter helped shape the creative I am today.

What a lot of people don’t see is that my path hasn’t been a straight line. While building McDowell Media, I’ve worked a variety of jobs to support myself and keep the dream alive. Most recently, I spent several years in the social media and marketing world, eventually working as a full-time social media manager. That experience taught me how to tell stories, build brands, understand audiences, and create content with purpose, skills that have become just as valuable behind the camera as they are behind a marketing strategy.

For years, photography and videography were always there, but they often had to take a back seat to the responsibilities of everyday life. Then everything changed.

About a month ago, I was unexpectedly laid off from my full-time position. Around the same time, I was navigating some major personal challenges that forced me to reevaluate almost every aspect of my life. Suddenly, all of the plans I thought I had were gone, and I found myself standing at a crossroads.

I had two choices: play it safe and immediately search for another traditional job, or bet on myself and finally give McDowell Media the attention it deserved.

I chose the second option.

Around that same time, I began focusing heavily on the Texas music scene. While I’ve only been working with artists for a couple of months, the response has been incredible. In a very short period of time, I’ve had the opportunity to work with artists and bands like Pecos & the Rooftops, Braxton Keith, Passengers Unknown, and several others. What started as a curiosity quickly turned into a passion. I realized that music combines everything I love: storytelling, emotion, energy, culture, and human connection.

The music industry has a way of rewarding authenticity, and I’ve tried to bring my own style into every project. I’m known for blending digital photography and video with Polaroids, creating imagery that feels raw, nostalgic, and real. My goal isn’t just to document a performance. It’s to capture the moments between the moments, the atmosphere backstage, the fans in the crowd, the anticipation before a show, and the details that help tell the artist’s story.

Looking back, it’s funny how life works. Losing my job felt devastating at the time. Going through personal hardship felt overwhelming. But those experiences forced me to stop waiting for the “right time” and fully commit to something I’ve been building for seven years.

Today, McDowell Media isn’t just a side project anymore. It’s the result of years of persistence, countless lessons learned, and a belief that storytelling can create real connections. I’m still early in this chapter, but for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

The last month has been one of the hardest seasons of my life, but it’s also been the most transformative. Sometimes the thing that feels like your world falling apart is actually life clearing a path toward where you’re meant to go next.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been anything but a smooth road. Over the last seven years, I’ve photographed and filmed everything from model shoots and local brands to entrepreneurs and now musicians. Every stage taught me something different, but one challenge has always remained the same, balancing the pursuit of a creative career with the realities of everyday life.

For years, financial limitations, career obligations, and life circumstances seemed to keep pushing my goals further down the road. Most recently, I was laid off from my full-time career as a social media manager while also navigating some significant personal challenges. It was one of the most difficult seasons of my life.

At the same time, those challenges forced me to fully commit to McDowell Media in a way I never had before. Instead of treating it as something I would pursue “someday,” I had to bet on myself and pursue it full-time. Looking back, many of the obstacles that felt like setbacks ended up pushing me toward the path I was meant to be on. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s made me more resilient, more creative, and more determined than ever.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I shoot primarily on modern digital equipment, my work is heavily inspired by film photography. I’ve always been drawn to images that feel nostalgic, imperfect, and real. Because of that, I intentionally edit my work to have a raw, cinematic quality rather than the overly polished look that’s become common in today’s digital world. My goal isn’t to create perfect images. My goal is to create images that make people feel something.

One of the things I’m most known for is blending digital photography with Polaroid photography. I almost always carry a Polaroid camera with me, and it has become a signature part of my process. Whether I’m documenting an artist backstage, capturing moments between songs, or photographing people in everyday situations, I love creating images that feel timeless and personal.

Recently, I’ve found a home in the Texas music scene. There’s an energy to live music that perfectly matches the style I’ve spent years developing. Instead of focusing solely on the performance itself, I’m drawn to the moments surrounding it: the anticipation before a show, the chaos backstage, the conversations, the crowd, and the emotion that exists between the songs. Those are often the moments people remember most.

What I’m most proud of is that McDowell Media has continued to grow and evolve over the last seven years. Every stage of the journey, from working with local brands and entrepreneurs to stepping into the music industry, has helped shape my perspective and creative voice.

What sets me apart is that I don’t approach photography as documentation. I approach it as memory-making. I want my work to feel like finding an old photograph years later and instantly being transported back to that moment. Whether it’s through my editing style, the use of Polaroids, or my love for raw and authentic imagery, that’s the feeling I’m always chasing.
