Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Ault.
Hi Lindsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I think like most people, I have multiple “stories” that make me into who I am, thus the overall big story. I’m a very creative person. I’ve channeled this passion for the arts into multiple forms, that is what makes me, well me. I am a professional dancer and also a content creator. Dance is something I find joy in and it’s evolved from just a hobby to my job over the years. I started when I was a toddler in Ballet and Tap, then tried Hip Hop in 2nd grade.
That’s the style I ultimately fell in love with and continued to grow in until high school that showed me way more variety in styles. After graduating, I’ve continued performing and choreographing hip hop pieces but now jazz, heels, contemporary, and others as well. Also after graduating is when my social media gig took off as well. I worked under two amazing mentors and continue to do so. They have helped me spread my wings in the social media realm. I’ve gained 7k on Instagram since graduating (about two years) and have now made my own business in mentoring others in how to influence through my Cloud.9 account.
It’s a mentoring business but also a content creation one to help make advertising and promotional material for other small (or big) businesses. I can provide ambassadors or other influencers to brands that need them, and also train those that I’ve provided to the brands. It helps both sides of the collaboration relationship through my advice and through partnering with each other.
I’ve grown on my personal page and I wanted to help others because it’s doable which lead to the creation of @Cloud.9influence. This is the drive to help others is the same through dance as I want to be a dance teacher. In both forms of art, movement, and photography/graphic design, I aim to help train others. That is the connector between them, helping, other than both being forms of art.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For dance, it’s never really smooth even if you start right out of the womb. Those who do tend to struggle with insecurities or egos (as it can go either way) and unfortunately tend to have eating disorders or body dysmorphia due to the pressure of image in certain styles such as ballet (typically ballerinas are tall and slender).
I didn’t make my high school dance team so that was my bump in the road, especially being a Texas kid, it’s a BIG thing here. I think that motivated me more though because it shouldn’t matter if I did or didn’t that does define me if I’m “good” or not. I’ve now performed for artists like Saliva and Snoop Dogg at the age of 18! If I let others define my dance ability by my successes and failures I wouldn’t have been able to stand my ground to keep dancing.
As a content creator, it’s not as easy as posting a picture and that’s it. Lots of planning, editing, scheduling, studying, all go into it. You need to make sure you have something worth posting, worth reading about, that’s what builds your community. It’s not about followers, it’s about your engagement rate and conversion rate of how many people in your following not only see but interact with your post.
How many non-followers did the same and then became a follower. The algorithm is always changing and constantly throwing curveballs, I don’t think there will ever be a smooth road with social media but the key is to keep going and I do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a dancer, I specialize in hip hop and heels. Those are the styles I feel the most confident in, but no matter the style I will make it a performance. I’m most known for these styles as they’re what I specialize in and can be found on my Instagram page both my own choreography and workshops from other classes.
I also do content creation and my specialty would be aesthetics and value. A pretty page is important but the worth behind the post is more so. I combine the two to make sure both your eyes and mind are pleased.
I’d say the combination of influencing and dancing on my page and being me, is what sets me apart. I show people that it’s important to find a niche but that as humans we are complex and have multiple hobbies. You’re allowed to express love for multiple things and share that with the world and should!
I try not to take pride in things as we’re all just constantly growing but I do have successes in each that I reflect on. Dance I’d say it’s going on tour multiple times, dancing with notable artists I mentioned before, and the fact I kept going despite people who say I shouldn’t. Content-wise it’s being able to still maintain a decent schedule of my own posting and creating, other businesses pages, and brand collaborations with everything else on my plate.
I really do stay busy with each of these passions now becoming something I’m paid for, and I hope to teach others that they can too.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I would say to reach out to those in your niche, ask for their advice, and if they don’t respond there’s always someone else. Sometimes it’s hard to find the right person or you don’t know what to do which is another aspect as to why I created Cloud 9.
I wanted that community and platform to advise those who want help with networking and expanding their business or page. It never hurts to send a DM or email, especially to multiple people to hear different perspectives on a question or topic.
