Check Out Katy Whitt’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Whitt.

Hi Katy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into wedding planning and event services really grew from a lifetime of organization, leadership, and service. I served 21 years in the United States Air Force, with my last 9 years as a Regional Medical Logistitian. In that role, I managed complex operations, coordinated multiple moving parts, and ensured everything ran smoothly under pressure. That experience built the foundation for how I approach events today—through preparation, structure, and calm execution.

Alongside my military career, I had already been deeply involved in the wedding industry. I’ve been a wedding photographer since 2008, and through that experience, I saw firsthand how much of a difference strong planning and coordination make. I often found myself helping brides manage timelines, vendors, and unexpected situations, even when I wasn’t hired as the planner. That’s when I realized my strengths naturally aligned with event planning and coordination.

After retiring from the Air Force, I officially launched Katy Gee Wedding and Event Planning. What began as coordination quickly grew into full planning, consulting, catering through Whitt Catering by Katy Gee, and bartending services through At Your Service Bartenders by Katy Gee. My goal has always been to provide clients with a trusted, professional, and seamless experience backed by real operational expertise.

Today, I lead the planning process, build detailed timelines, manage vendor relationships, and ensure every event reflects the client’s vision while running flawlessly behind the scenes. My husband Richard works alongside me as my assistant coordinator, and together we’ve built a business known for reliability, professionalism, and execution.

Everything I’ve done—from military logistics to photography to planning—has led to where I am now. I’ve combined structure, creativity, and service into a career that allows me to help people experience one of the most important days of their lives with confidence and peace of mind.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road — and honestly, I think that’s what makes it meaningful.

After serving 21 years in the United States Air Force, stepping into entrepreneurship was both exciting and intimidating. The military gave me structure, purpose, and identity for over two decades. When I retired, I had to rediscover who I was outside of the uniform. Building Katy Gee Wedding and Event Planning wasn’t just starting a business — it was stepping fully into my own identity.

The name Katy Gee is deeply personal to me. My full name is Kathryn Geneva, and my mom used to call me “Katy G.” She passed away in 2018, and choosing that name for my business was my way of honoring her and carrying a piece of her with me into this next chapter of life.
This business isn’t just professional — it’s personal. Every wedding, every event, every client I serve carries that legacy.
Even the double “EE” in Katy Gee has meaning. It represents both my mom’s maiden name, Eskridge, and my maiden name, Eddington. It’s a quiet tribute woven into the brand — a reminder of where I come from and the women who shaped me.

So when you hire Katy Gee, you’re not just hiring a planner. You’re stepping into something built on legacy, love, and purpose.

There were struggles. Building credibility in a competitive wedding industry. Expanding into catering and bartending while maintaining excellence. Long nights working timelines. Navigating the emotional weight of clients trusting me with one of the most important days of their lives.

And then there’s the vulnerability of building something with your own name on it. When your name is the brand, the wins feel incredible — but the pressure feels heavier too. You don’t get to hide behind a company. It’s you.

But through those struggles, I’ve found confidence I didn’t know I had. I’ve learned that the same leadership, logistics, and calm-under-pressure skills I developed in the military translate beautifully into weddings and events. I’ve learned that honoring my mom through this business gives it purpose beyond profit. And I’ve learned that building something alongside my husband makes the journey even more meaningful.

It hasn’t been easy — but it’s been worth it. Every challenge shaped not just my business, but me as well. And today, I stand fully in who I am — a leader, a planner, a creative, and a woman building something that carries both legacy and heart.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As the owner of Katy Gee, I specialize in delivering a premium, trusted planning and coordination experience. My role goes beyond logistics—I provide peace of mind. My clients trust me to protect their vision and ensure every detail is handled with precision, professionalism, and care.

What I’m known for is being the calm, steady presence behind the scenes. I bring structure, clarity, and confidence to what can otherwise feel overwhelming. With my background in the United States Air Force, serving for 21 years as the Regional Medical Logistitian, I developed a deep commitment to accountability, preparation, and execution. When someone entrusts me with their wedding, I take that responsibility personally.

What sets me apart is that my business is purpose-driven and built on trust. My name is on my brand, and that represents a personal standard of excellence. I’m most proud that my clients can fully let go of the stress and be present in their day, knowing everything is being handled with integrity and intention.

Katy Gee Wedding and Event Planning isn’t just about planning weddings—it’s about delivering an experience where clients feel supported, confident, and genuinely cared for.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband, Richard, has played an incredibly important role in both my personal journey and the success of Katy Gee. From the very beginning, he believed in me and supported the vision long before the business became what it is today.

He works alongside me as my assistant coordinator, and his presence allows our events to run seamlessly. He understands the level of precision and care that goes into each wedding, and he steps in wherever needed to ensure everything is executed exactly as planned. Whether it’s supporting logistics, helping manage vendors, or simply being another calm and steady presence, he plays a critical role in the overall client experience.

Beyond the operational support, he has been my steady foundation. Building a business with your name on it takes vulnerability, long hours, and a lot of trust in yourself. Richard has been there through every stage—encouraging me, supporting me, and helping me grow into the leader I am today.

Katy Gee may carry my name, but it is absolutely strengthened by his partnership. Together, we’ve built something rooted in trust, purpose, and shared commitment to excellence.
