Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Reinke.
Hi Jenna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hi, I’m Jenna Reinke. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. Then, I moved to South Dakota to follow my husband’s military career. We then moved to South Korea followed by Maryland. I’m now excited that we are establishing a home in San Antonio, Texas. We moved here a couple of years ago and I must say it’s a great location full of endless amounts of new experiences and adventures. I have a 6-year-old boy named Clayton who loves adventures just as much as us. I also have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever dog named Blaze.
I am a photographer that specializes in portraits, couples, maternity, and boutique newborn photography. My passion for photography was inspired by my mom who always had a love for photography and documenting my childhood through her film camera when I was younger then DSLR when they became available.
She has totes full of printed photos and scrapbooks of us growing up that I will forever cherish. Since I was 8, I remember always asking for different cameras for my birthday and Christmas. My passion for photography continued to grow in college when I was attending film photography, digital media, and marketing courses. I was required to learn the basics techniques of photography through developing my own film in a dark room.
After falling in love with learning the fundamentals of photography, I bought my first professional DSLR and full-frame lenses. I was only 19 years old at the time and I remember my husband telling me I was going to be a professional someday. I’m fortunate to have such great people in my life that truly support my dreams and make me believe that I should do what I’m passionate about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Learning photography and operating my own business has been a very smooth road. My biggest challenge was actually when moving my business to San Antonio in Summer 2019. It was hard to say goodbye to families that I watched grow. I had the absolute pleasure of documenting many families’ pregnancy, birth, newborn, baby’s first birthday, and other milestones that followed.
This was definitely hard for me to leave behind because there is nothing more rewarding than watching families grow behind my camera. It’s always challenging leaving and having to start over somewhere new. My home studio just opened in March 2020 exactly when lockdown for COVID-19 began. Then in November 2020, my husband started training out of town for deployment pretty spur of the moment and deployed right after.
One of the biggest challenges with being a military family surrounded by no family or friends is the lack of childcare. I was able to take on a few in-home studio sessions while my son was at school. Words can’t describe how excited I was to start taking on outdoor sessions this fall. I’m so overjoyed that my photography business is FINALLY taking off here in San Antonio. I’m super grateful for all my clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My art is always growing and changing as I grow. The way I pose and edit is always evolving. Exploring and adventure is something I’ve been loving and I believe my images portray that aspect of my life.
