Check Out Jada Taylor’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Taylor

Hi Jada, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My fashion journey began in high school, where I made costumes for the drama club and interned in the costume department on film sets. I’ve always had a passion for design and learning how clothes come to life. I dreamed of becoming a costume designer or fashion designer. After studying fashion design in college, where my work was often misunderstood by professors, I became even more determined to stick to my vision and take risks with my style.

That’s how Mixd Fashion was born—it’s all about breaking fashion rules and categories to create fun, colorful looks with a sporty, western twist.

After college, I became the youngest member of the film union in Cleveland and worked on major productions with Netflix, Disney, Universal, Warner Brothers, and more. While working in film, I also set big goals for my brand. I took the leap into fashion shows, photoshoots, and even had my designs featured in the HBO Max movie Native Son. Along the way, I built my customer base and pushed Mixd Fashion forward.

In 2019, Mixd Fashion fully launched, selling online and at pop-ups. We began traveling across the country, producing photoshoots, and even participated in Texas Fashion Week. Now, after nearly a decade of working in film and styling for corporations, I made the move from Cleveland to Texas in 2024 to focus fully on my brand.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been a journey of trial and error! Growing a fashion brand means constantly experimenting to see what works and what doesn’t. We’ve designed looks that haven’t sold, pop ups that no one showed up too, photoshoots that didn’t turn out, or sometimes you can have a creative block.

I’ve learned that you never really know until you try, which has made me more flexible and resilient. I break down my goals into smaller steps to keep moving forward. You have to know your brand inside and out and really BELIEVE in it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
With nearly a decade of experience working as a tailor and stylist on major film productions like Netflix, Disney, Universal, and Warner Brothers, I bring a unique combination of craftsmanship and creativity to everything I do.

At Mixd Fashion, every piece is sewn in-house, and we take pride in our limited size range to maintain quality and exclusivity. Our design process uses haute couture techniques, from sketches and mock-ups to fittings and the final product. As a zero-waste brand, we ensure no fabric goes to waste, repurposing scraps into scrunchies, dog beds, and pillow fillings.

We’re known for our cowgirl streetwear, featuring creative uses of color and unconventional materials. Mixd Fashion breaks the rules of fashion by blending street style with country vibes, celebrating girl power and individuality. As a proud female and minority-owned brand, we design standout pieces like sequined chaps and tops made from upcycled cowboy boots.

I’m most proud of our Cowboy Boot Dress, designed from upcycled cowboy boots and leather scraps. This challenging concept debuted at Texas Fashion Week, and it’s a perfect example of how we take unconventional western elements and turn them into something bold and unique.

What really sets us apart from other brands is that Mixd is all about fun and celebrating the girlies! We love working with models and spreading good vibes throughout every shoot. We’re known for our positive, bubbly attitude, and we genuinely enjoy making friends along the way. For us, it’s all about having a blast and sharing that energy with everyone who’s a part of our journey!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love about San Antonio is the rich culture, amazing food, and the people! Everyone is so friendly and supportive of the brand, which makes it a great place to be. What I like least would probably be the traffic—but other than that, I’m loving it here!
