Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Berrios
Hi Henry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has been full of ups and downs! In September 2017, Hurricane Maria devastatingly hit the Island of Puerto Rico. My wife, who was pregnant with our son at the time, and I lost everything. I had two jobs as a barista working at two different coffee shops, but it was not enough. Trying to get back on our feet was incredibly hard! Our son was born in November of that same year, and we still had no power or running water where we were staying at. My wife, Solange, worked as a news reporter and radio host for a commercial radio station in the Island, and it still was not enough.
In 2020 I traveled to New York to compete in The Coffee Fest, where I became the world champion for Latte Art. It was a great accomplishment! I was the first Puerto Rican in the history of the event to have ever achieved that. After that, I started receiving job opportunities from across the states and ultimately decided for San Antonio. My parents had moved to the city about seven years before, and it was something my wife and I had already been considering. After moving here, things got harder because of the COVID pandemic, so it took seven months until my wife and son moved here with me.
Every step in my career has led me to grow and perfect my art, my craft. My passion for coffee has led me to develop One & One Coffee. The concept is a fully mobile coffee bar! We have hosted several pop-ups throughout the city, as well as plenty of private events. Incredibly, the concept has been incredibly popular at weddings! We deliver everything from the classic espresso and cappuccino to a fully customized and exclusive menu.
Throughout my journey, I have had the privilege of meeting plenty of coffee industry professionals, I’ve had the opportunity to teach my art to others, and I have even been featured in latte art books across the world, including Japan.
My goal with One & One coffee is to deliver quality and finely crafted coffee to any area or event. We pride ourselves in our product and are so very happy and grateful with the opportunities we’ve had in this beautiful City of San Antonio!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road! One & One has lived in my dreams for so long, and it’s not done yet! I am incredibly happy to have something tangible finally; something that I’m able to share with this amazing City, but do I have more to give? Absolutely! This is just the beginning of One & One Coffee.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the Owner and creator of One & One Coffee. The concept is a complete and fully mobile coffee bar. I have been a coffee expert for over eight years and have developed a concept that will bring the coffee shop experience to you. I am known for latte art, having won The Coffee Fest in 2020, I’ve worked to perfect the craft of quality coffee. I have served as a judge for that and plenty other recognized competitions within the industry.
What sets One & One apart from others, is the fact that we can fully customize the cart to your business or event! From personalized signage and cups to fully customized drinks, One & One Coffee is sure to elevate your guests’ experience.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
As cliche as it may sound, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to never give up. I have been low, my family and I have lost everything, we’ve started from zero in a different City, with new people, a new language, and we’ve kept going! Never give up on your dreams and goals and never stop learning! Even if you think you have mastered something, the world is ever changing, never stop learning and growing.
