Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Alberto Perez.
Edgar Alberto, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Del Rio, TX. In 2006 I moved to San Antonio to continue my education at a local college. During that time I continued working in the music industry in San Antonio and surrounding areas doing parties, events, charities, and even working in Restaurants and Bars. I did that for many years until I received the opportunity to be in an international Latin music reality show called “Objetivo Fama 4”. At that point I was 21 years old. I participated and had a decent result. My greatest win was having a lot of people see my talent showcased on TV and the experience, It was never really about winning it. I knew that winning the contest being in another place where people hardly knew me was going to be almost impossible. After “Objetivo Fama” I came back to San Antonio and had many more opportunities to sing and show my talent. After that I participated in other shows such as “Placido en el Alma” alongside renowned international tenor “Placido Domingo” and made it to 4th place. I also participated in “Canta Mexico Canta” and made it to semifinals. Those shows also opened a lot of great opportunities as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road. There has been challenges. One of the greatest struggles have been trying to balance my life to be a husband and a parent, a son and a brother, or a friend and being an artist. Being in music and sometimes playing with bands is great, it’s fun, and of course it’s a way of life and I’ve made a living off of it, but balancing with a normal life has been hard. Lately, I have given priority to my family and I have walked away from opportunities that would have required me to tour for a long time or that would have taken a lot of time away from my family and I have focused more on local stuff and less time consuming opportunities.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer. I specialize in Latin music, but I also have music in other languages. Locally I’m known for participating in several tv shows and realities. I’m proud of my music and I’m proud of the road that has brought me where I am. I think my love for real music, real instruments, and real talented artists sets me apart from others. If anything of your music is fake (voice, instruments, autotune, etc) it’s disregarded right away. I’m a firm believer that fake instruments, fake voices, and overall fake or AI artists have no place in real music.
How do you define success?
Many believe success equals fame, money, and things like that. I believe success is doing what you love and finding the perfect balance while doing it. In our world we see so many famous and wealthy people that are not happy with their life and that can’t possibly be called “success”. In order to be truly “successful” you need to be able to have the best of both worlds and that is something that I’ve found and that I would never let go of no matter how much fame or money you offer me. My family and my circle in general needs to be in perfect balance with my music career.
