Check Out Dream Place’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dream Place.

Hello Dream Place, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Dream Place began back in 2017 when Candace Garza and Bella Martinez were attending the first San Antonio Girls Rock Camp and were assigned to be in the same band. After the camp, Candace and Bella recruited Daniel (Candace’s brother) to play bass as a fill-in but ended up keeping him once they heard his ideas and mad bass skills.

Dream Place was at that time a three-piece with Candace on vocals/guitar, Daniel on bass, and Bella on drums and occasionally guitar. Later on, down the road, our music started to change and we found our style as we kept writing. We loved playing as a three-piece, but we all knew there was so much more we could do if we had a drummer.

We decided to invite Carlos (Current drummer) a close friend that Bella had played with for years in another band. A few days later, we all got together and tried running through the songs. The atmosphere in the room when we were all together felt like we had known each other for years! Since then, we’ve played many shows together and can’t wait for what the future brings!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We think one of the challenges we faced as a band was playing shows. Since we were all so young when we started the band, it was very hard to find venues that would let us play and have all-ages shows because that was our target audience. Now that we’ve grown up and SA has more all-ages events available, it’s been way easier to play to everyone and get our music out there! It was definitely a struggle in the beginning we’d say.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Dream Place is a 4 piece alternative pop/indie group that uses wavy guitar effects, upbeat drums, groovy bass lines, and mesmerizing vocals to reach all sorts of audiences. Their sound ranges from chill vibey songs as heard in their single “Drive-in” to classic garage rock heard in another single called “When you close your eyes.”

Their debut EP “Clouded Thoughts” was released March 5th, 2021. More recently their latest single “Saturn” was released in November.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What we like best about our city is that it’s very arts-oriented so there’s no shortage of events to perform at. We have a very active art and music scene now. Something we dislike is that there’s a lack of all-ages venues that are more welcoming to everyone. We need more safe all-age places that people will feel comfortable going to!
