Hi Corey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Chicago , Illinois on the citys West Side , West Garfield park neighborhood. Im 19 years old and ive been making music since i was 13. But have only been releasing music for 4 years. Growing up ive been surrounded by entrepreneurs and artists and always had a background in music. It was prophesied since i was young that music will be my gift. My original backgrounds in music comes from singing in my church choir and also the Chicago childrens choir in grammar school. Growing up in school ( G.W. Tilton Elementary School) all of my peers Brewed the original inspiration for music as we would always freestyle at the lunchroom and in class and at recess during halftime of basketball or two hand touch football and it became a lifestyle because of All the constant music we he in our ears all day . From doing the DLOW shuffle , To T.U.T , to Sicko Mobb , To Sosa , Durk , Duck And Kanye it was just Us and who we are . Later when me and my family relocated to San Antonio , Texas my Music REALLY took off ,bringing my chicago style influence to the deep southern states music scene and i had alot of periods of success, at least in my standards. When i Got to highschool at Douglas MacArthur Highschool on the cities North East Side is when Khari Was KHARI. I Stuck to my name and that’s officially what i was called and i was simply known for being a Artist. So much for the fact that i was asked to REMAKE the historically known school theme song in District history titled “ We Are Mac” which was even accompanied with a Music Video Shot ON school campus specifically during end of year testing to show the true colors of Mac. I am now 19 Getting ready to turn 20 On January 15th and getting ready to release my 10th full size Album in the 4 years ive been making music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No , it most definitely hasnt been a smooth road . The challenges of being a new artist and finding inspiration to keep going is the biggest struggle. Trying to build a loyal fanbase while also maintaining consistency so youre not a one hit wonder , motivating yourself to keep going , trying to ignore the haters its all a struggle as it is , people dont understand what we go through as artists. Its meaning and soul behind the art that we make thats the reason theres truly no two artists that are the same
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me apart from others is my Genuine spirit and realism. Its me and theres not another me. Thats all i can say. My Music is Me and theres isnt another me. I put my heart and soul into every single track i make and it has a purpose behind it whether im mad or sad or happy all of my music directly resembles my mindset in the current moment . I try not to make music too ahead of time to keep the genuine spirit in every track i made to help people know more about ME.
What’s next?
To open a Mental health institution , to fix the MAIN problem of the world. cant plug a Hole without shutting off the source. I want to grow as an artist and not a rapper , Spread out to different genres , get to collab with a virety of people and just genuinely made a difference through my god given gift. Thats the Meaning of my name , Kingly or person who brings smiles and love/laughter (Khari)
