Check Out Brianna Rodriguez Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Rodriguez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Brianna Rodriguez, I am 26 years old and I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. I feel like my love for makeup derived from when I was a child. I loved to paint and draw. It wasn’t until I reached 16 years old in 2011 that I started to practice makeup looks on myself before school every morning.

I would save up my money to buy the latest brushes or eyeshadow palettes that were just coming out.
When I reached 19, I left for school in Houston, TX, and I would practice with all my roommates or any of my friends in the dorm. It was almost every weekend that I was practicing different looks on them for many events. That is when I fell in love with making others feel beautiful.

When I came back to San Antonio, I really wanted to work in an industry that provided beauty for others. I worked at a couple of jobs in the makeup section, and I would even attend professional artistry classes with celebrity makeup artists. I then started working for MAC Cosmetics and I absolutely loved it. This is where I was able to execute my artistry skills to a new level. I was working alongside different artists who had been in the industry so long and I learned so much from them.

After a couple of years, I felt like my time with MAC Cosmetics should come to a stopping point because I really wanted to work as a freelance makeup artist for myself. This was a big move as I didn’t have a set amount of clients or even a huge following on Instagram.
I had faith and just went for it. Two years later, I am so happy to be busy with work that I absolutely love.

2021 I got to work with my first celebrity at her concert. I am really grateful for the way life has been turning out for me and my business and I only strive to work harder and reach more goals.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been the smoothest road. I am only one person, so besides doing makeup, it was really challenging to keep up with all of my clientele and ensure that they are all taken care of. I had as many as 50 messages a day that I would have to get back to by myself.

I definitely did not make enough time for myself to enjoy life, so my mental health was of course not where I wanted it to be, but I am learning and I am hoping to continue to try to make things smoother.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most proud of believing in myself to do what I love full time. I think what sets me apart from others is that I take my job seriously, it’s not a well-respected field, but it is as much hard work as many other jobs.

I strive to have dignity and even do as much as make sure all of my products are properly sanitized, I am well trained by professional artists, and I am open to learning new things! I feel like many other people in this field block off critical criticism and I am so open to it. I’m also bilingual, this helps a lot when booking clients who can’t speak English.

I specialize in professional makeup looks that have longevity and airbrush finishes. I am known for “soft glam.”

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I think the most important lesson I’ve learned in this journey is to take a day off. Making sure I have enough time for myself and my family. For months and months, I have been putting my work first in my life and for once I want to put my family first.
