Today we’d like to introduce you to BluJaz Larry Trub.
BluJaz, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
BluJaz is a San Antonio TX based band consisting of some of the best musicians in the area. We perform music which we enjoy, and we generally re-arrange or modify the songs to give them a new twist. We then create fresh, new music perfect for listening or dancing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The San Antonio/Austin corridor market is very competitive. To succeed in getting your music heard, we feel you need to distinguish yourself from all the bands that play the same songs everyone else does. We pride ourselves in that we try to add or re-arrange the music we perform to give the songs a new take. With so many bands competing for venues, that is the biggest challenge.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
BluJaz performs original music and covers by such great artists as Stevie Wonder, Al Green, B B King, Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway, Etta James, Bob Marley, UB40, Lee Ritenour and George Benson. Our music consists of Blues, Jazz, Neo-Soul and Reggae. We love to add a different part or re-arrange the songs to give them a fresh new sound. We feel like our fans enjoy hearing our versions and what we did to the songs.
BluJaz consists of:
Larry Trub – Guitar, Vocals
Ricky Hernandez – Keyboards, Vocals
Chuck Moses – Bass
Lloyd Herrman – Drums
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Being a band that is trying to give our fans a show that we believe to be a different experience is not easy to market. Once we play a new venue, we always gather a new set of fans and followers. It is very rewarding to hear their positive feedback on how they enjoyed us, and the way we distinguished ourselves from other groups. Finding new locations and getting club managers to book you that first time to hear you is not easy. Once BluJaz begins performing at a new location, we frequently stay in their monthly rotation which helps us grow our following.
