Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Renee Cox.
Hi Andrea Renee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Story has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. It was only natural that I would get bitten by the writer bug in my teens. My dad had written screenplays for years, and when I got an idea for one, he taught me the proper format, and I wrote my first screenplay at age 16. Years later, I switched to writing books, which felt like finding my calling. I’ve had four stories published in anthologies, and I have several full-length novels in the works. With each new story I write, it’s my hope that readers will discover a little bit more about Who God is and how much He loves them.
As for copyediting, my origin story is a complete miracle designed by God. I was querying an agent who represented a woman who was dying of cancer, and I learned in my research that a small publisher was racing the clock to get her series published before she died. She got to see all the cover designs, but she died two weeks prior to the release of the first book in the series. I bought a copy and let the publisher know I was supporting the company because of what they tried to do for the woman, to see her publishing dreams come true before she left this world. The owner and head editor of the company asked me to watch for typos since they rushed production. I took her seriously and reported what I found, and she asked me if I wanted a job. Soon after I said yes, she realized I was better suited to be a copy editor than a proofreader, and I’ve been copyediting Christian fiction books ever since. It was a joy to help Dianne Price’s Thistle series shine for readers, and I’ve been blessed to work on over 80 books by incredible authors over the last 13+ years. Many of my clients have gone on to final in and win prestigious awards such as the Selah, Carol, and Christy, which feels like a bonus blessing from the hand of God.
I have several openings for copyediting slots in 2026, if anyone reading this is interested. I work exclusively on Christian fiction books and would love to help yours shine as brightly as possible. Check out my portfolio and editing services pages on my website: andreareneecox.com.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is any road ever smooth these days? My journey has had ups and downs, but I expected that. Jesus told us in John 16:33 that we “will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (NKJ) Every Christian will face hard days and difficult moments, and I am no exception to that. Editing and writing are not always easy. Feedback is rough at times. Undiagnosed ADD often causes me issues with focus. But there are significantly more moments that are beautiful and wonderful along the way.
The thing I hold on to the most through the difficult times is that Jesus has overcome the world. He is right there with me, guiding me in each step of my editing and writing and life journeys. There is nothing too big for Him to handle. With Him by my side, I know that those tears of frustration and disappointment will soon be replaced by joyous laughter and smiles I couldn’t wipe away if I tried. In Him, I am blessed. And you can be too.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I write Christian fiction romance, women’s fiction, and romantic tragedy. My style is a combination of rich emotional depth and witty humor to lighten the mood. I’m unafraid of diving deep into real-life issues and showing how it’s possible, with God, to thrive in the middle of life’s storms.
Here’s a glimpse at my available stories…
“Any Thing,” published in Anything, features a single mom with five rambunctious children who have no respect for a living room and a fault-finding mother-in-law.
“The Cottage on the Hill,” published in Springtime in Surrey, features a former ballerina who cries into her tea every afternoon and the sheep-farmer neighbor who wonders why… and what he can do to cheer her up.
“Melting-Pot Thanksgiving,” published in Novelists in November, features an imperfect daughter tasked with creating the perfect Thanksgiving while balancing a tight writing deadline and helping her foster children deal with difficult life events.

Something that sets me apart as an editor is that I include encouraging comments throughout the manuscript. I’m a thorough editor, so I like to encourage my authors along the way so they retain their confidence in their writing and the particular story on which we collaborate. One of my clients told me that God used my editing style to refresh her love for that particular story that had been created during an incredibly difficult year and a half. To God be all the glory for that. I am grateful He uses my work for the good of His Kingdom.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people would likely find it surprising that I watch war movies while I edit. I put them on for background noise and to distract the ADD part of my brain so I can focus better on the job at hand. This definitely would not work for everyone, but it helps me cruise through my editing gigs. These movies also provide miniature breaks from the page when I pause to watch my favorite moments (for example, the quick horse-riding lesson that is given in 12 Strong).
Another surprising fact about me is I’m a huge Dallas Stars Hockey Club fan. I watch or listen to virtually every Stars game from preseason to the Stanley Cup Playoffs/Finals, often while writing my current work-in-progress. I’ve seen a ton of great hockey since I began watching the year the Stars acquired Cody Eakin. Miss that speedy redhead! As I was typing this up, I got word that Captain Jamie Benn is making his season debut in game 20 tonight (November 18) after having surgery for a collapsed lung in preseason. So grateful God blessed him with renewed health after that scare! And yes, I pray for the men on the team and the staff. What better way is there to support one’s favorite team than by praying for their souls and good health?
