Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Nelson.
Hi Alyssa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for hair started young — my mom’s friend was a stylist and often used me as a model because of my curly, biracial hair. Learning how to care for it sparked my passion, and soon I was the friend everyone came to for hair help. I started as a receptionist while in beauty school, worked my way up behind the chair, and eventually opened my own suite.
Over the years, I’ve found my niche in bridal and event styling — I love being part of such special moments. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to work at Paris Fashion Week, which was truly a dream come true. That experience reminded me how far I’ve come and inspired me to keep growing, with more fashion weeks ahead.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been both smooth and challenging in different ways. Smooth, because I’ve always known this is the industry I’m meant to be in — I truly love what I do and couldn’t imagine another career. But it hasn’t always been easy. I’ve moved, married, had kids, divorced, and learned how to balance being the best mom I can be while still chasing my dreams without guilt. There have been moments of burnout and times I questioned if I could keep going, especially through Covid. But each challenge has pushed me to reinvent myself, stay motivated, and keep growing. Networking, learning from others, and collaborating have been such rewarding parts of that journey — they’ve kept me inspired and reminded me why I love what I do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist specializing in color, cutting, extensions, Brazilian blowouts, and bridal styling and makeup. I’m best known for my color work and bridal services — both allow me to bring out confidence and individuality in my clients.
I’m especially proud of my time teaching for the color company Pravana, where I was able to share my passion and knowledge with other stylists. More recently, I took a big step in opening my own studio and had the incredible experience of working at Paris Fashion Week — a true career milestone. I’m excited to continue growing in that direction, with more fashion shows both in the U.S. and internationally.
What sets me apart is my willingness to take risks and dream big. I go after what I want, stay open to learning from others in the industry, and truly believe in the power of networking and collaboration to elevate everyone.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can support me by following my work on social media @alyssa.shantal or @blushandthebride, sharing it, and helping spread the word about what I do. I love connecting with other creatives, so I’m always open to collaborations — whether it’s for photoshoots, bridal work, education, or fashion projects. The best way to work with me is to reach out through my Instagram or book directly through my studio. I’m passionate about building community in this industry, so any opportunity to connect, learn, or create together means a lot to me.
