Rising Stars: Meet Sheryl Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reverend Dr. Sheryl T. Martin.

Hi Sheryl, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
When I was nine years old, I saw a spirit for the first time after my father passed away and he came to visit me. I spent my childhood with the understanding that my dad was always there for me and that I could speak to him at any time. I never connected with other spirits or explored this any further, until years later, but the visit from my dad had a huge impact on me and on the way that I looked at life after death. It allowed me to find my connection to spirit.

In 2008, my mother passed away and I began a quest to learn everything that I could about spirits and life after death. I found myself being guided to leave my corporate job and began walking my true path. As an adult, I have worked to enhance my ability to connect to the spiritual realm and to continuously educate myself in the metaphysical world, in order to help others find that connection and to help them heal.

Following the completion of my doctorial degree in Holistic Theology and being ordained as an interfaith minister, Heaven-Pathways-Earth was established in November 2015. In 2016, I became certified as a reiki master and began to incorporate that knowledge along with my previous education to further create a sacred space for healing and growth.

Since 2015, Heaven-Pathways-Earth has grown in many directions. I not only offer readings, healing, spiritual counseling, and officiate weddings but I also teach workshops for others to learn psychic development, reiki and connecting with spirit. January 2018, I started the San Marcos Metaphysical and Holistic Fair which prior to covid was a monthly event that drew in vendors and clients from all over Texas. I also founded and facilitate the Wimberley Metaphysical and Holistic Fair which is hosted three times a year.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, the struggle was working the business while working a corporate job as well. When Covid hit the struggle was learning zoom and how to continue to offer workshops as well as offering distant healing and readings. Today the biggest struggle is officiating smaller weddings rather than large ones to limit exposure to Covid.

As well as the struggle with masks. In June 2021, we held our first fair since March 2020. We mandated the wearing of masks and received a lot of comments about masks and had customers and vendors refuse to attend due to the mask mandate. We made the decision to have our October 2021 fair to be mask optional and received many comments about the mask being optional and having customers and vendors who refused to attend due to the mask being optional.

Honestly, the fair’s ability to survive covid is in question as we are not receiving the support that we did prior to covid, and although it is an amazing event it may not be able to thrive in the current environment.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I sincerely care about people. Everything that I do and offer comes from the heart and a place of understanding that we are all connected. No matter our differences we are still connected as spiritual beings having a human experience.

When it comes to officiating weddings what sets me apart from others is that I offer free complimentary photography. Many times clients can not afford a photographer. I know without a doubt that some customers would not have photos of their wedding if I did not offer this service. I keep it simple by not editing the photos and simply providing them with a disk or flash drive of all of the photos.

In addition, I am proud to serve the LBGTQIA+ community and work to ensure that my wedding application is all-inclusive. I customize each ceremony for the couple. No two weddings are exactly alike. I also offer a variety of unity ceremonies such as the more traditional ones of Unity Candle Ceremony and Unity Sand Ceremony and then the non-traditional ones of Handfasting Ceremony, Circle of Herbs Ceremony, Crystal Grid Ceremony, Stomping of Glass, and Jumping the Broom and more.

When it comes to my Readings I use the Cosmic Zee Board (very rare in the US) as well as my connection with spirit to provide guidance to my clients. I do offer a lot of different services and with each of them, I give my all and work to not only be my best but to help others along the way.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
Overall I do not think of myself as a risk-taker. I tend to trust and believe things to work out for my highest purpose. I grew up in a poor environment so when it comes to things like gambling I have trouble finding joy in it. I can participate with a small amount of money but can’t push myself over that comfort level.

As far as taking risks in business. I would say it was a risk to leave a well-paying career to pursue my business as I have real-life responsibilities and others that depend on me. This is where my trust and belief kicked in and I put complete trust that everything would work and I would be able to meet those responsibilities. I am happy to be walking my path and touching others with my light.
