Rising Stars: Meet Madison Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Williams.

Hi Madison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Being a native Austinite and child to salon owners had me developing an eye for hair and art early on in life. To say I’m a hair nerd is an understatement and honestly, my station at work feels more like home than my house does some days. I’ve worked as a haircutter for the past 10 years and along the way, I’ve narrowed my specialty into my true passions (curly hair and razor cutting). In fact, I don’t even offer color services.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The majority of my struggles over the years have come from a place of insecurity and reactivity, usually showing up as imposter syndrome and it’s something I strive to tackle head on every day.

I also choose to teach and coach other stylists and it’s a challenge that brings me a ton of fulfillment.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work with clients from every walk of life but for the most part, they all have in common the desire to have a look that reflects to the world who they are and the need to be able to style that look in just a couple of minutes on a daily basis. I cut hair to go with the growth patterns and texture and show my clients how to accentuate their cuts quickly at home. I’m most proud of my constant drive to find connection with those I work with (clients and stylists) and my ability to give my clients an experience instead of a fast service that leaves them longing for more.

I feel like what sets me apart is my ability to work with and celebrate all hair textures from pin straight to tight coils.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
If covid along with our ever presenting social issues has taught me one thing, it’s that we can’t stay surface level anymore and we shouldn’t want to. People value connection and experience and are starting to spend their money on people and businesses who live those values out loud.
