Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Poss.
Shannon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2019, I came up with the idea of doing a haunted hike in the woods of Owl Creek Farm.
The owner of the farm was agreeable to the idea, so we started with clearing the trails, planning out the hike, and making props. My vision was not to have the loud noise and flashing lights of a haunted house but to immerse someone with their greatest fears in the deep, dark and quiet woods.
You never know what is lurking, watching, and waiting in the inky darkness.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The process of clearing the trails was relatively easy if you don’t mind the heat, the bugs and occasionally getting lost.
We cleared one mile of the trail which would ensure the customers at least a 20-30 minute walk-through depending on how fast they walked (mostly determined by how scared they were).
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I created most of the props for the hike, the rest were purchased. I made life-size characters out of paper-mache mostly. They are sealed for their stay out in the weather for about two months at a time. Some are going on ten years old this year.
It excites me when people stop long enough to recognize the artistry behind a zombie or a corpse.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I put the customer’s experience first and foremost. I want them to have an experience unlike any other at the Haunted Hike.
