Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Martinez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a creative, self-taught, cake baker. It all started out as a hobby. I have always enjoyed baking for family events and giving party-theme ideas. My family and friends have always asked me for party ideas and help with party decorations.
During the pandemic, I kept myself busy while working from home and I began to bake more. I just posted a picture of a breakable chocolate heart that I had made and from there I received a lot of positive feedback and requests. I had family and friends texting me how much and wanted to place orders. I was getting so many orders that I had to post that I was sold out, I couldn’t believe it.
I was so lucky and thankful since it was the year of the Great San Antonio freeze. Luckily, I had completed all of the orders two days prior to the big freeze.
My first lesson was always to be prepared for the unexpected, never wait until the last minute to complete orders, and learn to not overbook on orders.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think for almost 2 years it has gone smoothly.
Due to learning the importance of placing cut-off dates for orders and knowing the number of orders to accept weekly, since this is just a side hustle. Doing this has given me the opportunity to give every customer order my personal attention and that extra personal touch. I am grateful for each customer letting me be part of their special birthdays, milestones,celebrations and that hard work, believing in yourself, and to never giving up on what you believe in is so important.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My specialty includes custom cakes. chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate dipped pretzels rods, cake pops, cakesicles, and birthday theme dessert tables. What sets me apart from others is that I give each of my customer’s orders a personal unique touch in the smallest details on cakes or that extra “wow” factor on the dessert tables.

I don’t consider myself a risk-taker, but after I saw how passionate I was with what was just supposed to be my hobby, I knew I had to just go for it. Also, having the support of my family and friends has me giving my 100% love into what I do. I am just grateful and blessed to have the support from my family and friends.
